obstetric cholestasis - itchy!!

Hi just wanted some advice really, in my last pregnancy I had pre eclampsia and whilst I was in hospital for that the nurse noticed I was itching a lot so I had bloods done and came back that I had obstetric cholestasis that was around 32/33 weeks.
I’m now pregnant again currently almost 34 weeks and this morning I’ve got terrible itching my arms and legs and I also have it on my hands and feet but not as bad as arms and legs. I’m not sure if it’s to do with what I had last time because I don’t know if it just comes on all of a sudden (last preg was over 6 yrs ago so memory bad lol) and don’t want to ring up the maternity ward if it’s nothing, I will probably just wait and get a doc appt on Monday and get some bloods done.
Has anyone else had obstetric cholestasis in a second pregnancy after having it in first? I’m not sure what the chances are getting it again.

Thanks!

Ring them ASAP, mine came on all of a sudden I got fobbed off by one midwife saying it's just stretching causing the itching because it wasn't as bad on my hands and feet yet over my body!! spoke with another had bloods done and it was oc, they can give you the medication you need the sooner you get checked!! Good luck and congratulations xxx

I had OC in first pregnancy and preeclampsia in second, however I think I was starting to develop OC again but they induced me early anyway due to the preeclampsia. Ring the birth unit, get the test, it’s not really something MN can answer for you. Good luck.

Your very like to get it in subsequent pregnancies sadly.

I had it in my first two.

I just had bloods done as I am experiencing symptoms now at approaching 23 weeks.

Ring your day unit they will take bloods today - with a history of OC they will take you seriously.

My consultant told me chances of having OC/ICP in subsequent pregnancies is very high, around 70-90%. So you need to get tested ASAP!

Thanks everyone just been to the hospital they we’re really quick didn’t have to wait straight in bloods done checked on me and baby we are both fine. Been sent home now and they will ring with results later on takes few hours. Hopefully won’t have it but good to get checked!

Did you get any results op? Xx

Gemmamarie92 · 16/09/2018 20:19

Yes came back fine! Although still itchy so they said to keep eye on it if it gets worse go back. I did read it can sometimes take a while to show up in bloods. Hopefully it’s not that though and it’s just my skin!

@Gemmamarie92 that's fantastic news!

If you stay itchy keep going back each week though x x
