Hi I am German and have a German passport. My husband and I are separated for 8 years and he’s got an Algerian passport. My daughter was born in the uk and has got an English passport. I would like to get her a German passport . He will only agree if she can have an Algerian pass as well. As he stupidly seems to think that an Algerian passport will be more important as a German one. I think a German one would be beneficial as it will enable her to study or live in Germany or Europe when she’s older. Because never mind brexit ... she apparently only needs an English passport even though she travels 3 x a year for holiday to Germany and only once in maybe 2 years to Algeria. I just need to know if she can have 3 passports or I need to think of a different route to go.

You need to find out the nationality laws of Germany and Algeria. She will already be British and German and Germany doesn't allow dual citizenship when a German citizen 'voluntarily acquires' citizenship of a non-Eu country. The question will be whether being born of an Algerian parent (perhaps she's automatically Algerian) is voluntary acquisition of citizenship or not.

Regardless, why do you need your ex husband's permission to obtain a passport for your daughter?
