What to wear to Christmas party at 7 months

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I’m thinking about what I’ll wear for our work Christmas too. It’s usally a cocktail dress type do.

I’ll be 7 months pregnant by then and I’m already in maternity clothes so it’s unlkkely I’ll be able to wear a dress I already own.

Any recommendations for something suitable or somewhere to shop that won’t be overly expensive? I don’t want to spend loads as id probably only wear it once altho I do have a black tie charity dinner that I might be going to at the end of November...

Reason for early post is whether and what I can find to wear is part of my decision as to whether I will go to the charity event...

Seraphine do some nice dresses but they tend to be on the expensive side, might be worth a look though.

Seraphine has an 'outlet' section where they basically have sale stuff. Lots of classy options there, especially in their Luxe range; I've also found plenty of Seraphine bargains on ebay so check there. Same with Isabella Oliver. Plus ASOS do a lot of cheap maternity clothes including party dresses, not the best quality but would be fine for just a few wears.

There are more and more smart/cocktail options for maternity wear nowadays, and coming up to Christmas every range will have something glam. I wouldn't let what to wear be the thing that puts you off. And remember you can glam up a plain, smart dress with accessories/jewellery you already own.

I got a dress from New Look which was reasonably priced when I was 6 months for a party. I was able to wear it with leggings after that for a more casual look.

Try JoJo Maman Bebe, they often have dresses that won’t break the bank (£40-£50) but look smart enough and they sell on well too if you decided to do that!

SoyDora · 13/09/2018 14:53

Have a look on ASOS. I went to a wedding at 8.5 months pregnant that had a ‘black tie’ dress code and found a nice evening dress on ASOS for about £30.

Next clearance online - I got a gorgeous red lace cold-shoulder dress reduced from £55 to £13. I’ve had 2 occasions to wear it during pregnancy and lots of people have admired it both times.

With Next Clearance it’s just your luck if they have your size or not. Good luck.

I got a lovely dress from Seraphine which I've so far been able to wear at 4 months and 6 months pregnant.

I'll be getting it out again next month when I'll be 7 months.

It's worth a look :)

AliceRR · 13/09/2018 15:29

Thanks I shall have a look!

I do like JoJo. I recently ordered online and got some dungarees and other bits but wasn’t thinking of patties at the time so didn’t look at the occasion wear.

I had my work's black tie Christmas party at about 7 months and did actually manage to look ok in a dress I had from before pregnancy, as it had quite a bit of stretch. Worth a look in your wardrobe just in case?

To be honest I had decided that I wasn't going to spend money on an outfit for a few hours and was going to turn up as well-presented as I could in something I already owned.

AliceRR · 13/09/2018 16:44

@CowintheMeadow I can understand that. I don’t really want to spend a lot and I am not exactly my most glam now I am pregnant!

My friend suggested I get a Christmas pudding dress (with a pudding where my bump is) and I’m tempted!

I've bought a lovely black lace Next dress for £10 from Ebay for a few functions I've got over the coming months, with it being maternity it had only been worn once so it's immaculate.

MindatWork · 13/09/2018 17:50

Hi OP, I sing at weddings and functions so have had to buy a few smart dresses for work (am currently 6 months) - I second ASOS and also looking out for NEXT maternity stuff online.

I got this dress new from eBay and have worn it loads - it’s a navy batwing tunic dress with a nice thick sash you can tie at the top of your bump to pull it in: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253646853391

It’s soooo comfy and you can dress it up with chunky silver jewellery: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253646853391

Good luck!

EBay for Seraphine or Next Maternity 👍

surreygirl1987 · 13/09/2018 21:32

Oh and definitely plan to go as you'll find something lovely. But I wouldn't buy it yet... you will grow a lot by then!!
