I'm 19 weeks 1 day so far. First time mum. Not really feeling any movements, so I bought a doppler. However when I use it is the only time I feel the baby and it is strong kicks out at me! I'm worried that the baby really doesn't like it, could I have hurt them?

I’ve heard the noise can be quite loud so if it produces noise that could be the reaction. Seems unlikely you would hurt them even if pressing quite hard... There are some who think dopplers should be used minimally as the effect of the ultrasound waves are not fully known.

You haven't hurt your baby. You dony need to use a Doppler though, I'd strongly advise you to get rid of it.

Please don't use a home doppler. It's totally normal to only feel occasional movement at 19 weeks (I didn't feel any movement at all until 22 weeks) but as you get further in pregnancy you mustn't use the Doppler for reassurance if you're worried about movement - it needs checking out by an actual medical professional. You can get false and very dangerous 'reassurance' from these devices.

Dopplers are supposedly one of the worst things untrained mom's can have.
I have high anxiety and spend the entirety of pregnancy stressed and worried but the information I read was not to use a Doppler as you could be picking up your heartbeat, or the placenta pulse, and reassure yourself nothing is wrong when something has happened to the baby and you don't tell the right professionals. Any worries should be taken seriously by your midwife.
I don't think a Doppler can hurt the baby, maybe he/she kicks because if feeling the movement, why not try giving your belly a massage to see if you get the same response off baby?
