Mastitis during pregnancy

I posted a couple of weeks back about taking antibiotics during pregnancy, and the infection I have isn’t getting better. I was in a&e last weekend on a drip and referred for a scan as the doctors believed it had turned into an abscess. Thankfully it hadn’t, but it is still badly infected. I’m coming up to the end of the second week of treatment and things just don’t feel like they’re getting any better at all. I feel very unwell to the point where I can’t work and I’m struggling to eat (forcing down as much as possible for baby as I drop weight very easily). No one can give me a time frame for when I’m gonna feel better, which I do understand as if I was responding to the antibiotics I’d be better by now. But has anyone else experienced mastitis during pregnancy, and did it take a while to improve? Or am I particularly resistant to treatment? It doesn’t help that every single time I’ve been assessed it’s been by a new doctor, I don’t really know what I’m looking at, so no one can say ‘this looks a bit better/worse than last time’. Every time I’ve seen someone, too, they kind of suck in their breath or scrunch up their face as if to say ‘wow that looks bad’, which makes me feel even worse.

I needed two courses of antibiotics for mastitis in pregnancy. After the second course my boob was still sore for weeks after but I felt ok. Everytime I saw a different midwife they looked at me confusingly. I asked pharmacist was there another type of antibiotic that would help but she said flucloxacillin was the one used. Hope you feel better soon.

I started on flucloxocillin, then have been moved on to co-amoxiclav (I’m not sure of the name of the IV antibiotic) with discussion that I might be moved on to a fourth type tomorrow after a review. I find it frustrating that all any of the doctors can say is how unusual it is to have an infection during pregnancy! It’s good to know yours did clear even though it took a while - when you finished the course was the infected area back to normal but uncomfortable, or was it still swollen/red/hot?

@Buttercup53 hi only seeing your question! Yeah uncomfortable and a little hot still. I'm wondering if it'll occur in this pregnancy now!! How are you?
