Me and my partner always wanted the name Amelia for our girls names since was pregnant 5 years ago but had a boy but now since the name is a lot more popular my partner likes Mia instead! I'm so stuck but I said to him why not just call her Mia (sounds similar/short) for Amelia anyway. But now I think I'm starting to go off it but none of the family like Mia. What do you prefer Mia or Amelia ?

I prefer Mia but both are very popular.

I've always found it hard to like popular names. Could you change it around a bit, go for something similar like Maia, or Amelie instead?

Agreed, Amelie is lovely!

I've known more Mia's than Amelia's over the years.
I do go off names when they become popular, but it is silly because you could love a name now and it take off next year and you're stuck in the same boat.

If we have another boy (currently nearly 7 weeks pregnant) I love the name Clay, DH prefers Clayton, I said that's fine on his birth certificate, because it'll be shortened to Clay all the time anyway, and he agreed. It's the same as that. My family hate both versions of the name and I couldn't give a shit (most family hate my girls name more, I really couldn't give a shit 😂)

We wanted Amelie 👍🏻 But then DH’s step sister called her daughter Amelia 🙈

Personally I wouldn’t go for a name in the top 10, but I’m a teacher so tend to have plenty of negative connotations to those names 🤣 our DD has a name that just scrapes into the top 100, not that you’d realise this as no one seems to be able to pronounce it!
