Pre eclampsia?

Left a message with my doctors and waiting for a call back so don’t go in on me for not ringing* basically last week I went to my 36 week appointment and tested positive for protein in urine and he high blood pressure, they sent it off and asked about other symptoms to which I had none ,however the last few days I’ve had a very annoying headache too ,I’ve also had pain just below my ribs they sent me for a scan as they thought the baby was breech but it wasn’t so that doesn’t explain the pain under my ribs ,The test has come back nothing to worry about but my feel are usually swollen considering I’ve not done anything I’ve had this headache that won’t go away and the rib pain too, it’s probably just a coincidence but these are the symptoms she was asking me about before so ,Is there a chance they could get it wrong (the test) I’m hoping it isn’t obviously but I am 37weeks now so out of the danger mark for it so nothing really to worry about in terms of delivering but I have a 2 year old so would rather not stay in hospital haha

The test is probably right, but pre eclampsia can develop and worsen very suddenly so obviously you do need to be seen, as you've realised. When you say you've rung your doctors do you mean the GP? Because at 37 weeks I would be phoning triage or the labour ward as you would need to be assessed at hospital with those symptoms. Hopefully everything is ok though.

SimplyPut · 12/09/2018 09:11

Call the labour ward, they will see you ASAP. Good luck, I had pre eclampsia with all pregnancies.

As pp says call your maternity triage number, some of these symptoms area sign of hellp syndrome. Please get checked out in hospital.

Oh my midwife went on holiday so told me to phone my GP for anything (Barr labour and reduced movements) so didn’t think to ring them for that ,I will though :) thanks guys

I think you should save time and pop down, as they'll want you to come in and take your BP anyway.

Verity23 · 12/09/2018 10:57

You should definitely get that checked out. I only had one day of symptoms of pre-eclampsia - awful headache and swollen face and hands (no sign of these and blood pressure was perfect the week before). The midwife I spoke to on the phone told me to just go to bed and sleep it off. I had an eclamptic seizure in the middle of the night and then a second one at the hospital as they were prepping me for a c-section.
I went from perfectly fine on the Sunday to having my baby delivered by emergency c-section early Tuesday morning, so things can develop very quickly with pre-eclampsia. It's always better to get those sort of symptoms checked out than to wait and see.

My DD was checked for preeclampsia yesterday as she had protein and blood in her urine and although not generally high, for her, her bp had gone up. They did a specific urine test for it, which I'm guessing you had? So I would believe them if they say it came back ok. That being said, preeclampsia can come on very suddenly, so the fact that you have these newer symptoms, I would definitely ring the labour ward & ask to be seen.

Good luck Flowers x

Well I went in and had more urine and blood taken and an ultrasound booked ,the midwife asked me if I picked up my prescription for iron tablets which was extremely confusing as I was never told the results of my previous blood tests ! No idea I was anemic so that’s why I had chest pain apparently ,also my blood pressure was apparently high on every appointment! Also something I wasn’t told about Confused I’m quite annoyed about it why wasn’t I told these things before ,my midwife told me they’d ring me if I had a problem with my results and if not then they’re fine

When I had protein in my urine.. I was just over the mark for pre eclampsia... even though I was only just over it they booked me straight in for induction the next day and my DD was born at 37 weeks the next day.. I would go to your maternity Assesment unit because things can worsen straight away

CurlsLDN · 12/09/2018 18:34

Glad that it sounds as though you've been reassured about the preclampsia now.

For future reference though - not sure what you mean by being out of the danger mark at 37 weeks? Pre-e is potentially life threatening to the mother, no matter what gestation.
I had it, I was having daily tests at that time. One day I was absolutely fine. The next day I had pre-eclampsia. So even if you've tested negatively it can change very quickly.

This isn't intended to undermine you, op, rather to clear up any confusion for anyone else who may happen upon this thread.

dawn96 · 13/09/2018 06:38

Oh I didn’t mean for me I meant for baby x

As in being born at 37 weeks baby is fully developed and unlikely to have health problems as supposed to if I was much earlier on

I understand dawn, it's just it could have been read the other way in your previous post.

How are you now?

dawn96 · 19/09/2018 13:02

Much better ,the iron tablets have stopped my chest pains and my headache is gone too so I’m assuming it was a headache from exhaustion,Thankyou for asking x
