Not sure on dates...

Hello!

I did a pregnancy test on Sunday, Monday and yesterday...I’m definitely pregnant!

It’s such a surprise as I was being investigated under doctor for PCOS. However, due to irregular periods, I don’t know how to date it.

My last period was 16th June. I tested every week just in case- as advised by doc- and Sunday 2nd, it was negative. By Sunday 9th, it was positive.

On Monday, Clear Blue said I was 1-2 weeks, which they said on their leaflet really means 3-4 weeks.

What does this all mean?! How will doctor figure it out (I have an appointment on Monday 24th- first available one)?!

Thank you!

You don't usually really need to see your GP to be honest. But you can see them of course.
But do ask the surgery to make you a booking appt with the midwife, usually done when you are about 8 weeks.
So I would call and ask them to book you in for about 4 weeks from now.

Oh, and start taking folic acid if you aren't already

Book a booking in appointment with your midwife. It should be done at around 8 weeks. (If you've only just got a positive your appointment should be around 4 weeks from then as a guess as most BFP happen around 14 to 16dpo). I'd guess you were classed as around 4 weeks Sunday by your clear blue weeks indicator, maybe a few days either way but it's only a vague guess for all of us as most people aren't 100% sure when they ovulated in their cycle anyway.
Tell all the above information to the midwife and she'll figure out a date, nothing is set in stone until the 12 week dating scan.

Sorry if I’ve misread this, but I just out 16th June as the first day of your last period into a calculator and that dates you at 12 weeks now.

What did I miss ?

MsHopey · 12/09/2018 11:15

@ShedDevon

OP might have PCOS which affects periods and makes them really irregular. The space between ovulating and BFP is always around 2 weeks.
But the OP might have had a 50 day cycle as it's the first day of the period and the ovulating that changed from cycle to cycle.

Seablueeyes · 12/09/2018 18:02

Thank you all. I guessed around 4 weeks too.

My last period was 16th June but pregnancy tests were coming up as negative until Sunday so I can’t be 12 weeks! My periods have ranged from 17 to 97 days since I came off the pill so that’s why I was being tested for PCOS.

If you book a booking appointment for about 4 weeks time and explain the circumstances, your midwife will almost certainly send you for a dating scan to find out your dates. They may even insist on doing your booking in appointment sooner given your last period dates- in my experience the NHS calculators don't cope well with long/irregular cycles and the midwife won't be able to accept your tests as evidence of probable dates.

I'm currently 10+6 but last period was 1st June- I know exactly when I ovulated but because my period dates put me over 4 weeks further than I know I am, the midwife sent me for a dating scan earlier this week to find out Smile

Fabulous- thank you for the advice. I’ve found an online referral form for my area and sent it off this evening so will hopefully hear back soon.

That’s exciting about your dating scan! Will you still get a 12 week scan too?

Sorry @Seablueeyes, wandered off and just got round to looking at my watched items! Yes will have a 12 week scan at 12+4, it needs to be between 11-14 weeks to carry out the nuchal translucency measurement so a dating scan at 10+4 isn't quite sufficient. Hope all goes well with the midwife, keep us posted!

monkerina · 03/10/2018 18:44

Hello, just wondering how you got on @Seablueeyes?

Seablueeyes · 03/10/2018 19:57

Hello! I had a scan two weeks ago as the midwife thought I was 14 weeks based on my last period date...I was approximately 6 weeks! I’ll be 8 weeks at the end of this week, so have booked scan for beginning of November. Seems ages away!

How did yours go?

Fab news! It's great to actually know where you stand and it'll make the NHS processes so much easier Smile

I was 10 weeks at my dating scan, same as I thought (although I did get told off before I went in as 14 weeks by their dates so too late for nuchal screening!), have since had a 12 week scan and am now 14 weeks. Hope the rest of our pregnancies are uneventful!
