Old Baby or New?!

Hi All, v.confused and wondering if anyone else has had similar situation or can shed any light.

5+3 I had a miscarriage (14/08) over 6 days my HCG levels went 40/32/9. I was asked by the Hosp to do a test 08/09 and confirm it was neg. Me and DH did 'the deed' twice 20+21/08 and nothing since yet the test I did came up BFP! I went back to the hosp yesterday and HCG level was 270. They say they cannot confirm whether this is new baby or old! Got to go back next week to do another HCG test.

My main confusion is this... The home kits I did at 5 weeks were faded lines, there, but faded. This one at nearly 3 weeks has the strongest line I have seen on a test. New or Old? or possibly (as my mum likes to think) multiple pregnancy!

I'd love to know your thoughts before the appointment next week please!

Based on your previously declining readings, I would say this is a new pregnancy :)

Sounds like you're around 3 weeks since conception, so they'll say you're 5 weeks again :)

By my maths a new pregnancy seems more likely with those HCG levels, assuming that you implanted a week after sex :)

Hi @Stephisaur thank you for replying Smile that is my thoughts too I think, so do you reckon that is why the levels are so strong because they will class as 5 weeks? every hcg chart I have seen does put me in the 4-5 weeks bracket but obviously with knowing my dates I assumed they were slightly out.

@Stephisaur the two pink ones were last time at 5 weeks. The other photo is this time yesterday!

@SpannerH those are some lovely strong lines!

Yeah, I'd say that that's why your lines are so strong. Pregnancy tests test from around 6.3 mIU/mL (that's the value for the FRER tests which are the most sensitive I believe) to around 100 mIU/mL (which is more like a regular pregnancy test).

Yours are 270 mIU/mL at the moment, so that's why your lines are so clear. I would guess that your HCG levels were much lower before your MC, which is why your lines weren't as clear.

It's not an exact science though, and this is just what I know from TTC myself!
