Hi all
Had a mc a few months ago and was prescribed 5mg folic acid due to my weight. That ran out and I'm pg again

Can I just take 12 'normal' strength 400mg tablets until I get my arse to the Drs?
Thanks

I am overweight and my family has a history of spinal deformities in pregnancy. I mentioned this at my first MW app and said I was taking one folic acid (normal dose) and one pregnecare a day and she said that would be fine. I would take 2 of the normal ones for now, till you can get to the doctors.

Sorry I meant 400ug!
Thanks for the reply. I think the pregnacare only has 400ug as well. Need to just book the Drs.

if it helps I needed the high dose too and i just phoned my dr and asked them for the prescription as the midwife had said i needed it - i didn't need an actual appointment they just gave me an email address as it needed to be in writing and then my prescription was ready a few days later.

I have type 2 diabetes and need 5mg of folic acid in addition to what is in the pregnacare tablets. When I found out I was pregnant (currently 12 weeks) I rang the doctor and asked them to prescribe it over the phone and send it to the pharmacy 😊

Hopefully yours might do something similar

Hey OP, 👋🏻

My midwife said your body will take what is needed and you'll pee out the rest! So taking two for the time being until you can get to the Doctors should be fine 😊🤰🏻
