Antenatal yoga and pilates

I posted previously about preg yoga. I’ve since been twice and really enjoyed it but, slightly annoyingly for me, the instructor was about 40w preg too so is now taking time off. She does plan to be back in November so I can potentially go back to her classes then (I am due in Feb)

There is a preg yoga class on a Thurs I will instead in the meantime (also one of her classes but she has arranged cover for that)

But I’ve also recently discovered there is prenatal pilates.

I used to do pilates from time to time anyway. It’s also on a Thursday which is a shame as I could have potentially done both altho I suppose I could alternate if both were beneficial.

Has anyone tried both and can you say what the difference is or which was more beneficial to you?

I tried both in different pregnancies and I couldn’t really tell much difference. I thought it was worth doing though, good to stretch and move and also prepared me for the births quite well with the breathing and positioning.

Yoga tends to include an element of meditation and a very strong emphasis on breathing exercises, whereas Pilates is focused more on the physical workout, especially pelvic floor and core strength. Both are highly beneficial during pregnancy and I think it's just a personal preference kind of thing.

Thanks ladies I think I’ll probably try both altho the pilates class I found near me is at 8pm which seems quite late!
