CBD Oil in pregnancy

Hi all,

Before I found out I was pregnant (8 wks today), I was taking CBD oil daily for anxiety. I honestly found it to be the most intensely helpful thing. It was like a miracle cure for the background agitation I felt all the time and really helped me step out of fight or flight mode and deal with things in a rational way. I can't praise it enough. Since being pregnant I have stopped taking it. The midwife said basically there is no evidence to support it, as its so new, so they can't recommend it. My anxiety is now back with a vengeance.

Adding to my general anxiety is my fears for the baby. I had a termination 2 years ago when it was discovered at 12 weeks that baby had acrania and would not survive. When you've had a previous pregnancy with an NTD your risk for future pregnancies goes up. I've been taking extra folic acid but I am, I think understandably, still very worried about it happening again. So my anxiety is high.

I obviously don't want to take any risks with this little one's development, which is why i have stopped taking it. But I'm really worried I'm going to be a basket case by the time they are born!

Does anyone know of any articles that suggest positive or even nutral outcomes from taking CBD in pregnancy? Any experience with treating anxiety safely during pregnancy? Im anxious to speak to midwife about it in more detail in case she thinks I'm a risk to baby or something.

Please help me if you can. Thanks so much.

Hi OP

What your midwife has said is correct. It won't be worth the risk if it does have an adverse affect on your baby. You can resume taking it once your baby is born.

I am currently pregnant and suffering from anxiety, and was fast tracked for CBT, both by my GP and the perinatal team. They also recommended I not take any additional medication. What I have been doing in addition is meditating. Both are helping.

You can do this Flowers

Thanks for the encouragement.

I've enrolled today on Minds 10 week anxiety management and relaxation course. Hopefully that helps!

In my area there is a specific pregnancy mental health team. You could ask your midwife is there is similar in your area and ask for a referral?

Acupuncture and yoga might help to keep you calm

Hi SharedLife

I know this was a few years ago now but just wondering if you did use cbd through your pregnancy in the end?
I'm in a similar situation at the moment.
Thanks
