Having a baby with a spinal problem

So I got diagnosed with degenerative disc disease 2 years ago right when we were thinking of starting a family. My facet joints are pretty mangled and I have constant low back pain and some thoracic back pain. I’ve had steroids and awaiting rhizolysis. I can often not lift a bag never mind carry and lift a baby. Has anyone had a baby with this condition and managed? Time is running our age wise but my doctor (male) laughed when I asked him and said well women manage, then said ‘or just don’t bother’. However I don’t want to be unable to walk with a poor baby!

I have a bit of a bad back (although not as bad as yours!) and I find the bump support belt/band things really helpful. They stop it from pulling on your back so much.

Hello, I know this thread is old bit I wondered if you had a baby and how you got on?

@Yummycakeandcoffee I’m currently 22 weeks and have facet joint arthritis, curvature of the spine and hyper mobility. I had early onset PGP but have been managing with physio and 3 weekly cranial osteopathy (which I had prior to being pregnant). I’m hoping with all this I will stay ok, but fully aware it’s a weakness.

Thank you for your reply hun. Aw bless you you have alot to deal with too.
Im so please cranial osteopath is helping. Ive recently been looking into this actually and am starting physio in a few weeks. Also started at home pilates to help my core as this is very weak from previous pregnancy. Id love another baby im jist bery worried effect on baby and getting worse as I struggle dauly already. I really wish you well. Are you in pain normally before pregnancy as I suffer with pain and always feel exhasuted has pregnancy affected this is anyway. Congratulations by the way Flowers x

@Yummycakeandcoffee the cranial work has been a game changer for me, I’ve been doing it 5 years or so now. I was in daily pain before, just low grade and manageable but I’ve been good for a while unless I stand for too long or wear heels etc.
