How soon to contact the midwife?

Got a BFP on Friday (yesterday). Pretty shocked tbh.

The line wasn't really really dark so I think I had a longer cycle. It was my first cycle off the pill.

In this area, you book yourself in with midwives. When should I ring them?

Still can't quite believe I'm pregnant tbh, although I've had two positive tests and no period, touch wood!

In my area the midwife won’t see you until you’re at least 8 weeks (going by your last period) but I don’t see the harm in booking your appointment now for however many weeks time.

Congratulations 🙂

Depends how much notice you need to orchestrate the time off work for your appointment. I think i called them at 5 or 6 weeks because any shorter notice would have been difficult for me.

You see the midwife around 9-10 weeks here, called about 7 or 8 weeks to book ann appointment.

Ours you refer yourself online and then you get a letter through the post for around 8 weeks booking appointment xx

Thanks everyone. You're supposed to be able to do it online but every time I click on it, it doesn't work! Annoying.

I don't need time off work so that's one less thing to worry about.

I don't get in touch with the midwife until I'm 6 weeks or so, just in case, but technically you can refer yourself as soon as you get a positive. Booking appointment is usually somewhere between 8 and 12 weeks.

LittleDoveLove · 08/09/2018 16:25

Where I am we let them know straight away and they give you a booking appointment for around 8 weeks

Congratulations ❤️
Everywhere is different OP. I just phoned my GP surgery and they let me know when they recommend seeing a midwife. It was 8 weeks in my area so I booked an appointment for then

Thank you! I'll try ringing them on Monday. It does say on the website to ring "as soon as possible" although it just seems so early! I suppose they do get busy though...
