So I had a scan yesterday and baby is measuring 4lbs 4oz which was very surprising! I haven’t put on too much weight (maybe about a stone and a half?) and was a size 10 before I fell pregnant. I’ve had a sweet tooth in the third trimester but have been eating healthily apart from that (am vegetarian) - is she going to be a huge baby?! Does my chocolate snacking mean she’s piling on the weight or is it of no relevance? Her dad is an ex rugby player....

It's big, but not massive. If it's accurate (and those measurements are notorious for being totally off) you'll probably have a larger than average baby, in the 8-9lb bracket.

At 29 weeks baby was measuring below the 10th percentile and the midwives were really worried.
Then at 35 weeks my baby was measuring 7lbs.
They checked me for GD 3 times because they genuinely thought he was getting too big.
He was born at 39 weeks, elcs, weighing 9lbs.
Everyone told me the growth scans were notoriously wrong.
So who knows. I think my first one must have been incorrect otherwise he grew an awful lot in 6 weeks!

Take scan weight measurements with a pinch of salt. According to my scans at 28 and 36 weeks my baby should have been a pound heavier than what she was born at.

At 31 weeks my baby was estimated to be 4lbs I went home and freaked out.
At 35 weeks I was scanned again and told a very average sized baby about 5lbs. Try and take it with a pinch of salt. Worrying won't change or help it. I know easier said than done.

Thanks all, that’s a relief. I guess we shall see... and maybe I don’t need to feel so guilty about chocolate snacks after all...?

Also just read a thing about milk and bigger babies, and milk has been my major third trimester craving. Perhaps that’s the rub.

My DS was born at 31+5 and weighed 4lb 12oz. My DD was born at 40+5 and was 9lb 5oz - so I guess if DS had been term, he may have been similar?

I don't think weight estimates in utero are very accurate at all, though.
