Did your sweeps work?

I don't really know why I'm asking this because I've had my 6th sweep today after a failed induction last weekend. I'm41+1. My midwife was overly positive though apparently it was a 'good sweep' and she said 'if that doesn't work I don't know what will'. I feel like she's got my hopes up too much, especially after spending 2/3days in hospital last weekend and induction not working. I'm due to be induced again Saturday and just hoping to go into labour naturally. I was having contractions every 6-10 mins prior to the sweep and now they've slowed down! Typical! Anyway just curious about your experiences with sweeps?

Mine did. I was probably already in very early stages of labour though having had contractions but they were about 20 minutes apart and slowing down. I had the sweep- took a warm bath with some essential oils the midwife gave me and within 2 hours I was in full labour.

@Tumilnaughts fingers crossed for me then! Thank you I am bouncing on my ball having contractions every 10 mins ish. Did the bath help?

I had one sweep at 41+1 and dd was born at 41+2 hopefully it works for you op.

Heatherbaby · 06/09/2018 18:29

Wow good on you for tolerating 6 sweeps. I was the biggest wimp when my MW did mine - think she did 3/4 of a sweep before it was unbearable and I asked her to stop. It did however work for me. I was 41 +3 at the time.

I would relax and have a bath or watch a nice film with a good meal. Babies like to arrive to ruin your nice calm evenings IMO hehe. Good luck

spugzbunny · 06/09/2018 18:30

Mine put me in to early labour ... which carried on for 5 days.

hamsterwheel · 06/09/2018 18:32

I had a sweep one day before my due date and ds arrived that evening! Good luck!

2totwo · 06/09/2018 18:34

Mine at 40+3 hurt a lot so it was disappointing to be told afterwards it was unsuccessful. Contractions then started 2 hours later so I think it was successful. Wishing you all the very best OP.

Lookatmemeow · 06/09/2018 18:44

Nope
Sweep at +7; midwife was very confident that baby would be imminent. It wasn't.
Induced at +14 and baby born at +16.

Tumilnaughts · 06/09/2018 19:18

The bath helped I think because it relaxed me and let my body sort of accept the imminent. Good luck on your ball!
Also, right before I went into full blown labour I ate 2 sandwiches and 4 bags of hula hoops.

No.

DS was removed by force at 42+3. 3 failed sweeps later!

Twickerhun · 06/09/2018 19:22

Nope in neither pregnancy

blueelephant91 · 06/09/2018 20:10

Pretty sure it's worked for me... contractions are building up and are every 4-5 minutes. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

It was the 6th time though and I'm pretty sure I was in early labour before then

It did for me both times, first was on a Thursday afternoon and she was born early hours of Saturday morning
Second was alongside being induced and it only took 5 hours till she was born
Good luck!!

Corcra · 06/09/2018 20:17

Oh brilliant!! You’ll meet soon ❤️
It worked for me at 41+5.
I got it early evening and woke at 2am, she was born at 6am. Bliss. 😊

8DaysAWeek · 06/09/2018 21:08

How exciting!

Worked for me. Was 40+1, no sign of anything happening then 24 hours later mild contractions started and DS was born the following morning.

blueelephant91 · 08/09/2018 15:41

So I was sent home and they didn't think my waters had leaked the previous night. Turns out actually they had and I had baby by emergency c section the next day (Friday 13:52) he's in intensive care and we've both got an infection. ☹️ he's doing okay though. But I just want to hold my baby.

Oh Blue Thanks

I'm sure someone will be along with some wise words, but until then I can offer a hand hold.

Have you got any RL support?

GreenMeerkat · 08/09/2018 16:16

To be blunt, no. And it gave me an infection which made my baby very poorly when she was born.

GreenMeerkat · 08/09/2018 16:18

Oh bloody hell just read your update!!

FFS must RTFT.

Sorry to hear this blue. If it helps, my baby made a full recovery from her infection and is now a very healthy 3 year old.

Mumtobeluc · 08/09/2018 16:24

I had a few and honestly I wish I didn't as got an infection me and baby and were in hospital for a week. She's two months now and fine. It's so hard when you go overdue and you've tried everything.

Looking for some advice from those who have had sweeps before. I had one on Thursday (well I think it was a failed one as was told my cervix was ‘very closed’ so I assume the actual sweep wasn’t possible). Was told to expect spotting and have had some brown spotting since, am just wondering how long this should be going on for? I am still spotting now, I think it is actually getting worse, and I just don’t know if this is to be expected or if I should be worried
