Eating too much sugar

I have been suffering hyperemesis in this pregnancy and still feeling very rough now at nearly 36 weeks. I’m just worried because I need to eat so often to try to keep the nausea at bay and I am eating way too much sugar. Most of my snacks are sugary and I’m really struggling to eat and keep down any fruit or veg so my diet is very poor overall. Also drinks are high juice or coke as I just can’t seem to tolerate anything else. Has anyone else eaten so badly all through pregnancy?

I’m at 25 weeks and I’m honestly surprised I don’t look like a biscuit.

I gave up sweetener when I found out I was pregnant so have gone back to sugar in my tea too!

I don’t have any advice, just wanted to let you know you aren’t on your own!

I'm also quite worried about how much sugar I'm having. On the one hand I tell myself I'm probably ok because I am still eating healthy foods too (although could probably do with more veg to be honest, I've never been a huge fan) but on the other hand I know that if I kept a (honest) food diary and showed it to a doc or midwife they would give me a proper telling off. I feel quite guilty and also surprised at myself because I always thought I would be very healthy and responsible etc with my diet during pregnancy and I've not been, I can't even really blame it on morning sickness as that disappeared at 13w and now I'm nearly 20w. I just feel so tired all the time and end up craving sugar.

Although I do still feel guilty I've decided I'll try not to worry about it too much for now and just keep trying to include more healthy foods and try my best to resist the 4am chocolate biscuit cravings I've been having. Good luck!

PS love the username, and I have just had a hot chocolate too! Blush also my username is because I'm a vegetarian and not because I love veg! I'm the only vegetarian I know who isn't that keen on most veg Grin

With my first last year I suffered quite badly with sickness so anything I could stomach was a win. You can't fret over a healthy diet when it's either sugary food or being sick/eating nothing.

I had a GTT which was clear. I did worry the midwives a few times with glucose in my pee and got sent for a second GTT which was also clear. It is worth noting that gestational diabetes is no joke and a lot of sugar can cause that, but when you're so so sick its hard to be strict with yourself

Dont stress at all, i didn't take my vitamins either cos they made me puke. Little DD is healthy as anything so they will take what they can from your body and only you will suffer Wink

Best of luck

I worry about this too, I've always had a sweet tooth and believe that sugar is addictive, but nausea didn't help. Just polished off a bag of Rowntrees Randoms Sours (as a pre tea snack - terrible I know!) and now craving cadbury's caramel! I'm only 18 weeks and promised myself I'd cut down, but not doing great. Also developed a taste for the San-Pelligrino cans with my lunch.

OP
I am a very healthy eater. My palate is utterly orientated towards veg, fruit etc. I never eat junk

BUT during pregnancy - my turned at the sight of veg.
I lived off toast, pretzels and kit Kats.

Both pregnancies. Both children wonderfully fit and healthy. Don’t worry
