Hi, have been browsing here for a couple of days after finding the site again - dd is 18mths old and used to use the site when pregnant with her. Am 31wks with 2nd pregnancy, a girl, and am interested in peoples opinions regarding name choices. Dd is Ella and husband really wants to name this baby Anna. I am slightly concerned that these names are too similar and sound odd together - Ella and Anna seems a bit of a mouthful!! Am at that stage where have thought about it so much that not sure what I think!! Can't ask family and friends as they are all too polite (either that or they honestly think the names sound fine together!!). Thanks!!

I think Ella and Anna sound great ! Go for it !

I think they are both lovely names, but agree they are a bit of a mouthful - when you say them together, you have to end with an "a" sound before the word "and" which sounds a bit clumsy. Having just written all that, I have just realised that me and my sister both have names ending in "a", and I don't remember my mum finding it a problem! That wasn't much help was it sorry!

I don't think it matters what they sound like together.2 individuals and both lovely names.

Hi there
Eldest is called Ella and our youngest is Holly. I agree - too many "a's" at the end can sound a bit much although I also seem to be attracted to "a's" as my other choice was "Anna"! Glad we went with Holly though as it's different but still has a couple of "ll"s in the name (easy for them to write as well!!!

Good luck!

too similiar i think

elsieanjoanne · 07/06/2007 17:02

Its personal choice i like them both an together i think it fine you will get them mixed up anyway my dd Elsie my sis dd is Chloe so they both have the EEE sound at end an they oftenget shortened any way or mixed up i end up calling Chloe Elsie good look
nb anna really easy to spell

I agree with your concern I don't think Ella and Anna work together that well

Twiglett · 07/06/2007 17:04

it is the 'a' at the end

Ella and Anne is ok

Ella and Anabelle is ok

boowidger · 07/06/2007 17:11

Think me and husband just into awkward sounds as our surname has 3 L's so Ella has 5 overall!! I think you just get to the stage in pregnancy where your brain hurts when you think too much about something and you start to over analyse!!

That's so true. Leave it for a week and come back to it. I have had different stages of over-obsessing about things to the point of confusion throughout this pregnancy!Starting with moses baskets through to nappies and prams. Having my own name dilemma at the moment but if I talk about it I'll just get worse!Good luck !

I think they are both beautiful names and I certainly wouldn't be put off by the similarity. As far as saying "Ella and Anna" is concerned, I bet you won't actually say it that often anyway - I bet you're more likely to say "the girls" or "the kids" when referring to both of them together.
