Scan question

Hi,

This is my first pregnancy. I had an emergency scan on Thursday of last week after a bleed. Doctor said I was 5 weeks and have a SCH. All she could see was an egg sack and yoke. She was cold and rude and told me not to come back for three weeks even if I bled.

I had previously booked a private early scan for tomorrow eve but now I don't think I should go. I'm worried that a) I wont see any change and panic right before I go on holiday. b) It will hurt the pregnany.

Any advise would be great.

If you've booked a private scan then go. I had a small bleed at about 5 weeks and they gave me a scan and everything was fine it was just implantation bleeding. The scan literally looked like a dot. I didn't have another scan until 12 weeks. If they have told you it all looks ok then it probably is but if you want to go for another scan for peace of mind then go.

I wouldn't cancel your private scan. The little beans grow so fast at this point, that you should hopefully see a little bit more :)

I'm sorry that the doctor was rude to you last week, that wasn't fair of them when you're understandably worried.

The scans also won't hurt the pregnancy. I've had about a million (ok, 5) so far at 24 weeks and they're having me in every 2 weeks from now. They wouldn't do that if they thought it would harm the pregnancy.

Doctor was rude! Yes I'd go, you may not see anything yet you could potentially see the heartbeat - but don't get upset if it all looks ok but no heart beat as it's still very early

Bleeding is common in pregnancy as well as miscarriage so don't use that as a marker - I had a massive bleed as well as smaller ones with my 9 year old child and also had no bleeding g with miscarriages til it was helped along so don't fret

From what I've read it's best to scan from 6wks where there is more chance of seeing a heartbeat. I think any earlier and you might not see a heartbeat and cause you more worry/want to have another scan. I would give it a little longer if you can. I think I saw one at 6wks 1day this this pregnancy after having some spotting.
I alsohad three big bleeds with an SCH and I now have a 3 year old, so try not to think the worst if you can. I know how you feel though. It's very hard to wait it out as you just want to know what is happening and what to expect.

I'm just worried in case I don't see anything different or its not grown. Will there be any change in 4 days?

Personally I would put it off a little longer, maybe an extra week?

Notquiteagandt · 04/09/2018 10:47

I had the same a yolk and a sac but not alot else at 5w. I then ended up having an other scan at 8w. Where I saw the HB. But that was due to an other issue. Otherwise they would be happy for me to wait until my 12w scan. They could see my bloods where doing what they where meant to. And everything was in the right place.

I wouldnt loose heart just yet. Flowers

There won't be any change but maybe you'll feel better to talk to someone nice who can answer any questions you have? (presumably if you're paying for it)

italianwifey · 04/09/2018 14:12

Thats all I had at 5 weeks but then 2 weeks later saw a little teeny tiny baby and a heartbeat! Dont lose hope. Maybe delay your scan a bit if possible?

aetw · 04/09/2018 14:16

Move it back a week. You have more chances of seeing a bit more by then. I had a can at 6.5 weeks and the heart beat had just developed then.
