I found it useful to have read my work maternity policy and have a reasonable idea of how long I wanted off etc then just had a meeting with my manager

Twiglet did you email and tell her why you needed the meeting or did you just ask for one and tell her in the meeting?

I have quarterly meetings with my manager anyway so raised it at the end of that I had to tell her early due to my low blood pressure making me a faint risk.
When I got past the official mark I sent her and the team boss an email to officially notify them (which is what my maternity policy states)

Just don’t do what I did and nip out at lunchtime, throw up in the gutter just as your boss comes around the corner...Grin

I had to just ask my boss for a quick word one morning when I came in late due to sickness. I basically said ‘so this sickness in the morning thing might last a bit longer’.

I just asked my boss for a quiet word , she said 'your not pregnant are you 'laugh'' I said yes... 'blank face...oh'
Then we both burst out laughing
