CVS test

Just wondered if anyone has been in this situation. I had to have a tmfr last December at 18 weeks as there was a serious problem with our baby and the trauma is still with me. I didn’t have my 12 week scan until I was bang on 14 weeks. It’s then they spotted something wasn’t right, so 2 days of of waiting for a CVS then I think it was a week of waiting for the results and various other scans and consultant appointments before we decided the pregnancy couldn’t continue.

Fast forward to now and I’m 7 weeks pregnant. I was told in December that I would be offered the CVS test automatically this time. Do I have to wait for my 12 week scan appointment to request this or does my midwife arrange it? Do I have a scan first or straight to CVS? I don’t have my booking in appointment for nearly 2 weeks so will be 9 weeks by then.

Thanks all.

I carry a genetic condtion with a 1 in 4 chance in each pregnancy so I've had 3 CVS tests. Each time I've gone for a dating sacn first as they have to be sure of dates before they do it and at my hospital they start from 11+2.

I called my genetic consuler and she organised, i didn't have 12 week scans with any of time. You have a detailed scan before so they said there is no need.

I'm sorry to here of your tmfr I can only imagine how hard that was.

Our oldest son is severely disabled but we didn't find out untill after he was born that anything was wrong as you can't tell from scans but since having him we no the condition that we carry. We've gone on to have 2 healthy children and I'm 28 weeks pregnant with another healthy baby.

I hope the CVS test goes ok. X

I had a CVS and then a TFMR last year when we found out our little boy had T18. This time round I told the midwife at my booking in appointment and she referred me to the foetal medicine clinic when she sent the paperwork to the hospital. Someone from the clinic rang me and asked if I would like a CVS but we felt that we wanted to wait for the scan and see if there were any concerns first. She also booked my scan as early as she could (it’s usually done at nearly 14 weeks near me) so I could get it over with. I’ve found everyone to be really sympathetic and understanding once you explain your history.

I carry a genetic condition that can be passed on. My first dc has the condition so when I was pregnant with my second I planned to have cvs testing. Before getting pregnant I discussed the timing of the test with my dc's consultant who said I should have an early dating scan so that the cvs can be done at 11 weeks and then the tfmr could be done as early as possible. When I actually got pregnant my midwife was horrible( very insensitive and blunt) and refused to book me in for a dating scan before 12.5 weeks. It was so stressful trying to get her to book me in earlier so that I wouldn't need to wait to long if a termination was needed. I really struggled knowing I may need a termination.
Luckily my dc was in hospital at the time and a nurse we knew well saw how upset I was and called the maternity department herself. I had a scan at 9 weeks to date the pregnancy and cvs at 11 weeks. When I saw my consultant he said that all women that need cvs should be scaned earlier than 12 weeks.

Good luck op Flowers

Thanks for all of your replies. I will definitely ask my Midwife when I see her. I have the name of the foetal medicine consultant who performed my last CVS and she asked for me to be referred straight to her. I think it’s just knowing whether to do the test early or wait and see what the 12 week scan says. But then that leaves me with the potential of having the deliver the baby again rather than an operation and not sure I can handle that again.
