Morning sickness: how sick is too sick?

Hello ladies,

I am 8 weeks pregnant and it's been three days that I have been throwing up a lot. Weeks 5-6-7 it was mostly dry retching and nausea but I have been recently starting to throw up multiple times a day. Yesterday I threw up breakfast, lunch and a bit of dinner, with some in between. And today I have already thrown up before and after breakfast. I can keep something down, so I don't think it is full blown HG yet - but should I call the doctors nonetheless? This is my first pregnancy so I am a bit clueless. Did anyone else experience vomiting multiple times a day and went on as normal without needing medical assistance? Tnx for the help Smile

Even if it’s not quite HG, it does sound like you might need some anti sickness tablets and some rest!

I suffered HG till the point I was that sick I was throwing up blood from having nothing in my system and tearing my throat. That is the only time the doctors intervened. Hospital on a iv drip and anti sickness drip. All the other times I told them the severity of it they said "that's just pregnancy" I'd still see your doctor and see if they can help. Maybe offer an anti sickness tablet for when it's really bad. I hope they help you. It's really not pleasant. After my hospital stay I was free of HG, just usual morning sickness for 8 weeks before it returned. So it does help!

I would still call your GP and get anti sickness medication, its better to manage it straight away, vomitings lots will make you dehydrated which will in time make you poorly.

Its my first pregnancy too and i dont want to scare you but by the time i got to 22 weeks i had been so sick and dehydrated that i ended up in hospital with a kidney infection and put on a drip. My baby is fine but i felt really rotten.

Hope all goes well for you Smile

Thanks ladies. I will probably give a call to the docs if it carries on like this. I am getting a bit sick of being sick if you see what I mean Sad

Just out of curiosity - for those of you who had severe morning sickness/HG, did you end up having only one kid? And if you got pregnant again, were you equally sick the second time?

Yep only one. But not having more for a variety of reasons not just the sickness.

I had what I felt was horrendous hg but I managed to keep some foods down so was never hospitalised. The fact that at 38 weeks i was 1.5 stones lighter than before pregnancy and could only keep down lemon squash and prawn crackers was not brilliant.

The vast majority women will find their morning sickness fades after 12-15 weeks so i hope you are among them.

OP I encourage you to call your GP ASAP, the sooner you deal with it the better. I am taking Vitamin B6 and Citirizine, and whilst I still feel crappy and nauseous it's nothing compared to the morning sickness with the pregnancy I had 10 years ago.

Hey OP!! This sounded like me... weeks 5-8 I couldn't even keep water down, felt so rotten! Stayed in bed most of the time as the thought of moving made me want to cry, let alone work! I ended up asking the doctor for help, they gave me some Cyclizine tablets which I took that saved the day! Weirdly only needed them for a week max... then woke up one morning and felt ten times better!!! I still manage to gagg at just about everything... but I don't feel half as bad and I'm only sick every now and then when something doesn't agree..... This too is my first so I had no idea what was normal etc... But deffo get some tablets just to see you through this patch.... and I do promise it gets better! I thought it would never end and that thought alone made me want to cry.... But I'm just over 12 weeks now and can manage! Hope you get it sorted and don't feel too horrible for much longer 😘🤰🏻 Xx
