Help me please! Currently 31 weeks pregnant and really constipated, please can you share your best advice on how to get things moving, willing to try pretty much anything!
Away at the moment on holiday so not able to get to my doctors or midwife until next week 😕

I'm 15 weeks and struggle a bit (probably not as bad ) but! Chocolate.. ..pre pregnancy that made me go...

Lots of fibre... cereal etc

Go with the chocolate tho. You don't need loads and always makes me go!

Prunes juice and orange juice. Lots!

(Thank me later!)

starbrightlight · 29/08/2018 16:40

Take a spoonful of Linseeds every day and drink lots of water.
Walk as much as you can.
Eat prunes every day.
Eat porridge every day. Gluten-free works best for me.
Eat some licorice (but not too much as it can raise blood pressure).
Take a Magnesium Citrate supplement every day.
If desperate, use a glycerine suppository.

If you can’t find prune juice- dried prunes (eat a few packets), dried apricots (again eat a few packets), lots of water if you eat All Bran and cereals that are high fibre.

Certain sweets have a laxative effect if eaten in large quantities.

You could pop to a pharmacist and ask if they have something like lactulose to take.

Stick to brown bread.

Again drink lots and lots of water. Fruit juices.

Lots of fruit and veg.

Lentils, wheat bran etc

Coffee believe it or not! Even de-caf helps

Probiotic yoghurts

I can’t think of any more at the moment sorry!

(Jeez I’m getting so invested in this thread!Blush but big constipation sufferer)

Everything I’ve listed and what the pp mentioned try incorporating into your diet. But if you can the prunes and orange juice should work fairly quickly!!

SunshineAndRainbows6 · 29/08/2018 17:36

Grapes work a treat for me... I ate a whole pallet! That usually did the trick and it's healthy 😂👏🏻 Good luck!! 🤰🏻

endofthelinefinally · 29/08/2018 17:38

Prunes.
Everyone should eat prunes IMO.Grin

starbrightlight · 29/08/2018 18:47

Yes, forgot to add Probiotic yoghurts to my list.

Also a Pro & Prebiotic supplement. One that includes oligofructose / inulin (a prebiotic)

starbrightlight · 29/08/2018 18:51

Also add linseeds to your cooking ie stews & casseroles, anything with lots of gravy / sauce. I add linseeds to just about everything, like porridge, soups, macaroni cheese, chilli, Bolognese etc, they don't notice at all once it's cooked.

Linseeds are great for constipation but you do need to increase your fluid intake and keep active to get things moving...

Just adding bran and other high fibre foods never helped me at all.

Also eat lots of fruit. Good luck, op.

Joeybee · 29/08/2018 19:00

Coloxyl (not with senna)
A fibre drink
Fibre cereal like All bran/bran flakes
Prunes, prune juice or dried apricots.
Drink lots of fluids
Eat smaller meals more frequently to put less strain on digestive tract.

Minkies13 · 29/08/2018 19:31

Prune juice

Purplestorm83 · 29/08/2018 19:47

Apricot juice works as well as prune and tastes much better 😄

colourful86 · 01/09/2018 19:30

I tried prunes... apricots.. coffee... water.. juice!
In the end resorted to lactalous from the chemist... now I feel like a new woman 😆

Yay! Constipation is horrible. I always assumed it was just harder to poo. No way did I imagine really how I would feel.

Glad you got things moving, lactulose is ace!

rubyroot · 01/09/2018 22:24

All bran, prunes, dates, water. Have to be consistent.

I also ate tinned prunes which are actually quite yummy
I took lactulose and have to say it didn’t really work for me 😢

orangejuicer · 01/09/2018 22:32

Coffee Smile

CrabbyPatty · 01/09/2018 22:47

Kiwi fruit!

CrabbyPatty · 01/09/2018 22:48

And avoid bananas.

1HitWonder · 01/09/2018 23:53

Prune juice!!

Although for me, a morning coffee always works!
