I am being dramatic here but I really feel that there is no more room for this baby to grow - my belly in proportion to the rest of me is huge (deffo bigger than when I had DD!!) and it is like a rock - has anyone else felt like this and was it all ok - I have a feeling that he is either going to come early or just burst out of my belly button one day soon and make his arrival that way!!

Twinkie - my full sympathies. How long do you have left to go? I have 7 weeks and find nothing is helped by the "you must be due"/"sure it's not twins?"/"aren't you huge?" brigade too...

wilbur · 20/08/2004 14:28

Twinkie, I'm afraid that just when you think you can't get any bigger, you do. By the end of both my pregs, I had started to block out the sun.

wilbur · 20/08/2004 14:30

Sorry, meant to add, yes I had a rock belly (Ayres Rock Belly) and all was okay with both babies. Sympathies to both you and beansprout.

muddaofsuburbia · 20/08/2004 14:32

Twinkie - I had this too. I couldn't drive for the last 7/8 weeks of pregnancy cos my bump wouldn't fit behind the steering wheel. My skin on my bump was so stretched it was raw and I carried a cooling spray and talc around with me to try to calm it down. I had so many arguments about how I'd obviously got my dates wrong from 6 mths onwards . But I did love my bump and I really missed it - it was such a useful coffee table...

beansprout · 20/08/2004 15:00

Tell you what though - I am really crap at hide-and-seek at the moment!

Twinkie · 20/08/2004 15:13

I am 28 weeks - I don't think it looks that huge though - everyone else does - it just feels it - like there is no more room for him to grow, no more skin to stretch - it is so hard and veiny - althoguh I don;t have amy more stretch marks than the ones I got with DD they all of a sudden feel papery and weird!! - Maybe this is how I was with DD and I have just forgotten it - it is just totally bizarre though that I have to accomodate this thing growing insode me for another 12 weeks when somethimes he really feels like he is going to pop out if he wriggles anymore!!

Crap at everything at the moment - keep trying to walk through gaps I used to be able to get through and getting stuck and having to try and breathe in - AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

And I don't look blooming - I look like a blooming whale thank you!!

I really think that there are a lot of people who don't know what a woman over 30ish preg actually looks like. We get fed a lot of "cute bump" images but the almost wall to wall amazement at a normal for dates size bump is quite shocking. People seem to have an expectation that I "can't get any bigger". Well, with 7 weeks to go and a baby that is likely to double his weight, apparently I can (and will!)

beansprout · 20/08/2004 15:17

Sorry, that was meant to say "over 30ish weeks pregnant"!

KristinaM · 20/08/2004 15:27

Twinkie - at your stage i thought i was going to explode, i was so big. on reflection, I had only just told everyone i was pregnant at 25 weeks and no one had guessed.........

By 35 weeks i only weighed 6kg more than pre pregnancy and I felt EVEN BIGGER!!! Couldn't believe it was possibel to go on growing for another 5 weeks. I didn;t - it was another 7 weeks

He was 8lbs6oz at birth. can only conclude that size of bump is not related to size of baby

Turtle35 · 20/08/2004 18:08

Do I ever feel that way too! I seem to go through a big growth spurt once every 10 days now where it's so noticeably bigger and stretched, I got a support belt yesterday that sits under the bump and kind of holds it up, that is actaully helping, I don't think I can wear it outside of the house cause it looks obvious under your clothes but sitting around the house it works quite well.

dinny · 20/08/2004 20:23

Twinkie, I felt exactly the same at your stage - am 38 weeks now and YES, you can get bigger! MUCH MUCH BIGGER!!! Think you feel big at your stage as it's a big growth spurt. I'm now the size of a whale

smellymelly · 20/08/2004 21:27

I'm only 20 weeks and I feel ready to burst - HELP!

Bellie · 20/08/2004 21:41

I am definately going to burst (30 weeks) - I am even starting to outgrow my maternity clothes!! Help!!

beansprout · 20/08/2004 21:56

Bellie, when are you due?

Bellie · 20/08/2004 21:57

Due date 24 Oct.
Am very worried though as DH was 11 lbs 10oz and hoping that my little monkey will not be like his dad!!

beansprout · 20/08/2004 22:02

Blimey!! That's a big baby! How are your scan measurements looking?

Please come and join us on the October thread!! You'd be very welcome!!

Bellie · 20/08/2004 22:05

Sure was - mw and scans keep saying that I am the right size for my dates so I suppose I should not be worried

I'll see you over on the Oct thread another day as signing off for the evening now!!!

florenceuk · 20/08/2004 22:54

Well, I know I'm going to get bigger - but poor tummy is feeling rather stretched and uncomfortable as it is at 32 wks. Although I think there is a bit of relief when baby's head drops down a bit in your pelvis (but then you need to pee all the time). I have already grown out of quite a lot of my maternity clothes - moral being always buy at least one size UP from your normal size if you want them to last past 7mths! I definitely grew a lot between 28 and 30wks, so Twinkie I think you have more to go...

motherinferior · 21/08/2004 14:51

By the end of my second pregnancy total strangers were leaning out of lorries to comment on how enormous I was, and people were emailing me from across the country to say how enormous they'd heard I'd become.

sparkle · 24/08/2004 22:50

I was large for dates all through my second pregnancy and ended up with a 9lb 4 DD and approx 10 pints of fluid. She was born by elective section at 39 weeks and by that stage no midwife or consultant could feel what position she was in. She kept turning in all the fluid and is a real water baby now. For the last few weeks of the pregancy I felt like I was going to explode, but my bump was a constant source of amusement/pity for other people. Was also constantly asked if I was having twins.
