Brown bleeding 1st Trimester

Hi all, I’m 10w pregnant. Had a small amount of red spotting a couple of days ago, which then turned to brown (sorry if tmi). It’s very light, like the last day of a period. Mainly there when I wipe & a bit on panty liner.

Went to EPU & baby looked ok on scan with heartbeat. However, I still have the brown bleeding & don’t know why? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? The midwife said it’s not normal but not uncommon.

I didn’t have any bleeding with my Daughter. Pregnancy before that I had bleeding which turned out to be a MMC.

Thanks

It could be implantation bleeding. It's pretty common in the first trimester. Brown indicates it's old blood not a fresh bleed.

Thanks, but I thought implantation bleeding was much earlier eg the first few weeks?

Yep implantation bleeding is earlier on.

I bled approximately every time I should have had a period during my first trimester with brown blood. I looked it up and it's normal but found no proper explanations why. I'm now 38 weeks pregnant with an extremely active baby.

If you bleed after week 13 or it gets heavier then you need to be concerned.

Thanks bluebug, I saw the baby’s heartbeat & sonographer said all looked good. Just can’t explain the brown blood

Anyone? Can’t get hold of comm midwife. Had previous MC’s so I’m a bit anxious

I was advised to keep an eye on mine and rest as much as possible then call EPU back a couple of days later if it continued or straight away if it got worse.

Afraid to say brown blood was the only symptom I had of my missed miscarriage but since you have seen a heartbeat at ten weeks, the risk of that is much lower.

I had brown bleeding at about 6-7 weeks for about 48 hours. GP would not send me fr a scan because there was no pain, so I paid for a private one at 8 weeks which showed a heartbeat.
After extensive Googling it seems that the chances of MC are 50/50 with any kind of spotting. Not much comfort I know... but the scan you've had is certainly a positive sign.

I had this on and off till week 10ish. Always the scan was fine but it was so scary. I finally realised that straining for a poo was causing it and then I'd bleed for a couple of days fading to brown. I'm currently sat breastfeeding my 2 week old. So although it's scary and you should speak to your midwife it isnt always bad news.

I bled in my first pregnancy too, they could see the source but not the reason if that makes sense.

I had spotting at 10 weeks, for a few days, udrreing my last pregnancy. I had to travel miles away as I was a bridesmaid at my friends wedding so just had to hope it would be ok. When I got back I went to the EPU and had a scan and baby was fine. They had no explanation as to why it happened but it stopped by 11 weeks. That baby is now my cheeky almost 2 year old. I had a MC previously so I was a mess, but it was ok. Your situation sounds very similar, can you get another scan if you're still worried?

Blondiecub0109 · 29/08/2018 15:07

Hi I had brown spotting 6-8 weeks then a pad full of brown blood at 9 weeks .... baby fine each time and they could never see the cause .... still pregnant @15 weeks .... at 12w scan sonographer said if I hadn’t if told her I d bled she’d never know as no sign of it. I’ve also had a MC which started with spotting that got heavier .... however, I also had pain. At my EPU they insist on at least a week between scans even with new spotting/bleeding. Wishing all the best for you.

I had it with two of my pregnancies (plus pink spotting too) and the outcome was fine. Mine I think was due to cervical erosion which is caused by the high hormone levels when pregnant.

I had the nasty brown blood, it's not nice. My DS is 19 now

Sunisshining12 · 29/08/2018 15:54

Thanks for the positive responses! I also had a MMC before my Daughter but I’m sure the blood was red then. I’m just so anxious I can’t seem to shake these thoughts off. EPU said they couldn’t see any reason for the bleeding, I presume that’s good? Although still confusing.

I’ll see if I can go back to EPU as my dating scan is another couple of weeks

I had a bleed at about 8 weeks and saw the heartbeat. I was told that it was an implantation bleed and they actually showed it to me on the scan. It's more common than you might think.

Sunisshining12 · 29/08/2018 16:33

Thanks everyone feeling a little more reassured by your comments

I had this as well, went on for about 4/5 weeks - was worried sick but it eventually stopped, was also told it was an implantation bleed and all was good in the end Smile it's such an anxious time, I know how you're feeling.
