Its my first pregnancy and im a size 22/24 and currently 17weeks exactly.

My stomachs starting to harden up top and still wibbly wobbly down bottom, expcept when I lie down it feels quite hard. (Cant feel my uterus tho, which alot of people have told me I should be able to feel now)

Anyhoo, ive been told it may take longer to feel and been told to look out for "butterflies" or "bubbles" neither of which im sure ill be able to distinguish, has anyone got any other frames of reference? And when did you feel movement with your first?

18 - 25 weeks is the "norm". I've got a normal BMI, this is my third pregnancy, am nearly 20 weeks and not sure I have felt anything yet! It varies hugely.

Bineverywhere · 29/08/2018 20:51

12 weeks to the day with DD2 - knew what I was looking out for! Unless the foetus and uterus are themselves coated in fat it seems a little nonsensical to suggest you won't feel it. Typical fat-bashing really. Has anyone ever told you that you're incontinent because you don't know when you need to poo? Grin

High BMI (size 18) in both my pregnancies. I felt DD1 at about 16 weeks, DD2 while I was sitting waiting for my 12wk scan (at about 12+6ish) - like the PP I knew what it felt like by then (and both times it was while I was sitting quietly and still, so it was easier to feel).

BMI 30+ and first pregnancy.

Felt my first proper kicks at 19 weeks but it is honestly different for everyone. For me I could just tell what it was (never felt anything like it before). Movements in general remind me of the tummy flip you get when you drive over a hill too fast. Kicks feel like I’m being prodded from the inside (because I am!)

Hopefully you’ll be feeling them soon :)

Bmi of 39. Felt her at 16 weeks then nothing until around 20 weeks. Like fingers tapping my pelvis very lightly. It's not much too do with size and all about positioning of the baby and the placenta if you ask me.

Merrydoula · 29/08/2018 21:23

I am plus size and felt the baby move from about 17 weeks so I don't really think it makes a difference, the norm is upto 25 weeks especially for first babies, also your placenta may be anterior rather than posterior which massively contributes to how early you feel kicks. Don't stress, you will feel them eventually x

captainshortie · 29/08/2018 21:30

Aww thank you for your responses! Im driving myself mad with every little thing happening in my stomach, i sit in a quiet room and think "omg that was something!" Always turns out to be nature calling (sorry tmi) or a burp -_-

I know if you know what to feel for youll feel earlier sometimes xx

High bmi here too and I felt movement at 19 weeks. Felt like a plop😂 like if you dropped a ping pong ball in to a glass of water! That probably sounds weird🤣🤣

captainshortie · 29/08/2018 21:39

No I get what you mean! At my 16 week midwife app when she listened with the doppla she mentioned baby was quite active and kept moving about (nothing like me at all haha!)

I keep feeling like indigestiony bubbles up either side of my stomach, like you know if you dropped a fizzy sweet in some pop and the bubbles kinda woosh up? God so bad at explaining!

My bmi is 37. I've felt fluttery movements for the past two weeks. I'm 15+3.

This is my third pregnancy though, so I recognise them more easily than I did with my first. I think I started feeling movement on my first around 20 weeks.

We're all different though, so try not to worry.

Heartofglass12345 · 29/08/2018 22:17

First pregnancy I was around 22 weeks, second I was 15 weeks I couldn't believe it lol (BMI around 40)

captainshortie · 30/08/2018 00:25

My bmi is 48(i swear its just cause im a shortarse, cause im under 20st) I know ill feel something eventually and makes me calmer knowing everyone is different

My BMI was a bit lower in my first pregnancy, I felt movement at 16 weeks that felt like a muscle spasm (like when your eye twitches involuntarily and you can't control it -- but in your abdomen).
I'm 11 weeks now with my second and haven't felt anything yet except for a gigantic THUD last week. It can't have been foetal movement... but I'm not sure what else it could have been! It made me jump though.

sailing123 · 30/08/2018 12:35

@captainshortie I am really similar to you - size 22 and a BMI of 47 (and 5ft 2!). I first felt my baby move around 17 weeks (im 23 weeks now) and the way i would describe it is kind of like nerves - when you remember you have a job interview or something scary tomorrow and your stomach flips and whooshes (or like another poster said like if you drive over a hill quickly!) so not quite flutters but more quick and intense. I used to feel that at most once a day for a few weeks but by the time i got to 20 weeks i started to feel kicks which feel like tiny little muscle twitches (like when a muscle will randomly spasm or an eye twitch - not painful just noticable and weird!) and now they feel like definite kicks. You'll soon start to feel it, don't you worry! xxx

LorelaiRoryEmily · 30/08/2018 13:27

Op it is so hard to describe isn’t it!! Don’t worry, you will feel it for certain so, my BMI is pretty high too, not sure what but I’m a squirt too😂

MsHopey · 30/08/2018 16:00

I'm a size 22 with a higher bmi than I'd like.
I was 22 weeks when I first felt DS move, i did feel like it was way later than anyone else. You've just got to give it time x
