Pain in top of leg/bum cheek!

Not even sure if this is pregnancy related but I have an awful pain/twinge going up the top of my right leg and into my bum cheek! It feels like a muscle spasm, or nerve type thing. It's worse when I wake up in the morning or when I have sat still for a while. I'm 21weeks and have never had this before.
Does this sound pregnancy related? I'm unsure whether to speak to a doctor, midwife or the yoga instructor?!?
Can anybody relate or shed any light on what it could be?

Possibly Sciatic pain? Things can press on the sciatic nerve and it hurts right in the bum cheek and down back of legs. Obviously could be something entirely different but I've had this. Pregnant and not pregnant! It's a horrible feeling :(

If you are doing yoga currently (I don't mean at this minute!!) definitely tell the instructor. The dr or midwife could tell you some stretching that maybe able to help, or a qualified physio therapist

Hope that helps x

I've been to the docs with this this morning. I suffered what I suspected as sciatica prior to being pregnant but after having some hip pain for a few weeks followed by the last two weeks with severe sciatica pain going right down my leg to my foot j decided to go to the GP on the pharmacists advice. GP couldn't do much, advised to keep doing the exercises I'd seen online, take paracetamol and ask my midwife about using TENs when I next saw her. She said it definitely sounded like scsiatic nerve pain and not PGP or the other pregnancy related one.

I've got sciatica in both legs and went to docs who fast referred me for physiotherapy...and gave me co-codamol which I take 1 8/500 and 1 paracetamol which eases it quite a bit...but u can only take it until your 3rd trimester.

I've had this with all my pregnancies, and have been getting it again with this one for the last few days, I'm 22wks, I think it's sciatic pain, it will ease off, try a warm bath

In my third trimester I had similar pain and ended up being referred for physio with suspected SPD but the brilliant physio saw it for what it was and a few sessions of having my knotty buttock (not SPD) massaged saw the problem go away Blush

I went from not being able to bend down to pick stuff up from the floor, or being able to going downstairs without wincing, to being almost fine within a fortnight.

If you can afford it I'd book a one-off private physio session in case immediate relief can be had by having knots worked out but at the same time see about getting an NHS referral for physio.

Thanks for all of your replies! Will look into some exercises to try and relive it and will speak to my MW and doctor!

Yes I had this, I didn’t know it was pregnancy related until two weeks after dd was born and I realised it has gone away! I never went to the docs about it as I just put it down to muscular pain.
