So I’m 37 weeks on Friday and my friend told me to start using clary sage oil in the bath and smelling it? What does it do and where’s best to buy it? I’m on my gym ball and two cups of raspberry leaf tea a day xx

It can trigger labour and make contractions stronger. I’ve been told not to use it until I know that things are underway.

I agree with jubba. Don't use it until you start contractions.

Oh I thought it was supposed to help start things off?xx

I used it from 37 weeks. I put it milk and I the bath, loved the smell. I also put a few drops in a base oil and used in labour, I had some on my arms to smell and dh massaged it in my lower back. It was brilliant in early labour.

I wouldn't want to start things off unless you've arrived at due date (my opinion but everyone's different)

wonderstuff · 29/08/2018 10:33

I guess talk to your midwife. You can buy it at boots (it’s not cheap).

I used it in the bath on a couple of occasions and I did feel Braxton Hicks but that was it. It didn't start anything off for me. Be cautious though, I wouldn't use it before your due date.

I wouldn’t try to induce labour at 37 weeks. Past your due date, fair enough but 37 weeks is too early to be trying that unless there is a medical reason.

I used it past my due date with DD. I burnt it in an oil burner, massaged it into my bump and put it in the bath. I don’t really think it did anything tbh, none of the labour inducers do. I made my mouth bleed eating an entire pineapple whilst overdue with DC2, stupid stupid idea and did nothing except hurt.

I will wait then ladies xx
