Hi all,

When did you have your first scan?

They told me at the doctors for my first appointment 14 weeks, but I assumed it would be 12?

Was wanting to tell friends/family and work at 12 when it's safe but also, want to of had the scan first.

Just wondering what it was for you?

Tia :) x

Had a booking in appointment with the midwife at 9 weeks then scan at what was supposed to be 12 weeks but turned out to be 13+5.
Do you want the NT test? If so it needs to be done before 14 weeks.

@SoyDora

Thanks :)

I have a booking appointment with the midwife booked for 9 weeks +3 so that's fine then and yes I do want that test, do I need to tell them myself? How do I go about it.

The problem is it varies so much between areas! In my area the midwife phones the hospital during the booking in appointment to book the scan, and they try and get it as close to 12 weeks as possible. I know in some areas people self refer to the hospital, etc.
Did you book your midwife appt through the gp surgery?

I had scans at 6 weeks and then every 2-3 weeks, but I’m high risk and have had miscarriages so that’s why.

Standard is one at 12-14 weeks and one later, I think.

Mine was at 13+4. They can’t always fit it in exactly at 12 weeks, it just depends on how busy they are.

You will be offered the Downs screening by your midwife, you don’t need to request it yourself. It’s done with blood tests and a measurement of the baby’s neck (NT).

I paid for my first test privately between 10-11 weeks. Had really worked myself up with anxiety about Downs and so wanted to have a nuchal scan ASAP to put my mind at rest (couldn’t have Harmony, etc, for health reasons). I wanted to get my head around things before my partner found out if it was bad news. Best £50 I ever spent!! Am now 35 weeks and can’t wait to meet the little person on the screen xx

Scan based on LMP was at 12 weeks but from the scan date was at 13+1. I received my booking appointment and scan appointment letters in the same envelope. In my case the hospital allows you to self-refer online.

For some reason I was my booking appointment was at one of the furthest midwife clinics from me. As I knew my doctor's surgery had a midwife clinic I asked to have all further appointments there. If they couldn't have fitted me in there were at least 5 other clinics nearer.
