Early scan help

Hi all, new to Mumsnet but I literally have no one to talk to! I went for an early scan today. My periods are a bit irregular, not massively tbh just 27 days, 24days, 28 days, 29 etc etc.
Anyhow at the early scan they couldn’t see anything, she said they can see the gestation sac which just looked like a black hole but normally would see a flutter or heartbeat in there. She said I’m roughly 6w 1 days given the measurements although from my periods I guessed at 7weeks.
I’ve made the error of googling her notes she gave me particularly PUL which I know know is pregnancy of unknown location. This has FREAKED ME OUT. It does say three possibly scenarios, 1) ectopic but she seemed quite reassured there was no ‘outside pregnancy’, 2) miscarriage but I haven’t bled since my last period and 3) it was just done too early. I’m hoping that’s the case but she didn’t particularly convince me. When I asked her to be honest with me, well she wasn’t reassuring at all and just kept saying she’d expect to see this flutter etc and go to the doctor to arrange another scan and some more blood tests etc etc.
This has honestly thrown me sideways. Anyone had this which ended positively??

Ah it’s so difficult. I was in your shoes back in March this year so I sympathise. What date did you test positive for pregnancy? When was the first day of your last period?

When you say more blood tests- have you had sequential hcg done already? That might help shed a bit of light on the situation.

I’ve read so many similar stories on here that ended positively so I hope that’s the case for you.

Ah thank you. 12th August first tested positive. Periods a bit all over the place but really that’s was roughly on the day I was expecting a period. I suspected pregnancy as my boobs were really sore and that was a definite sign from my first pregnancy.
First date of last period 11th July. Because I had endometriosis I keep a log of my periods, since January Themis is my cycle lengths...

Annoyingly my BF is a midwife BUT she is also terrible at secrets so I just don’t want my sons heart broken if this isn’t going to happen. I’m a bit 😬 just don’t know what to think. Thank you for replying xx

You should be being offered blood tests 48 hours apart to see if the HcG is increasing appropriately & I’d have thought she would have booked you in for another scan in a fortnight.

Sorry you’re going through this. Speak to your GP tomorrow & get the bloods sorted. Good luck x

Your dates and cycle lengths could easily put you at 6 plus 1 as measured. I wouldn’t worry just yet really (know that’s easier said than done!). Does the report talk about a foetal pole at all?

LatteLover12 thank you 🤞

SaturdaySauv there’s no mention of foetal pole?! Is that good or bad? Xx

The foetal pole is the very start of the baby developing. There may be one visible at 6 weeks along with a yolk sac (nourishes the pregnancy before the placenta develops) but it may have been too soon to see these things (particularly if you had an abdominal scan).
