Giving birth fter breaking tailbone?

Hi everyone.

I suffered a serious tailbone break as a child. It was split into three pieces after I fell off a metal railing and landed right onto my arse onto concrete. Yeah, it hurt Grin

It took a good four months to heal and I would still get severe pain up to two years afterwards.

Fast forward over ten years, and I'm now pregnant with my first child and worrying how my previous tailbone injury may affect a vaginal birth? I'm only 12 weeks so have plenty of time to worry! Grin

My tailbone doesn't really cause me too much bother anymore. It healed well for such a severe injury. It'll start to ache if I've been sitting for too long or if I lean back too far when sitting, but aside from that it's fine.

Will I be able to have a vaginal birth? My biggest fear is that it'll re-break during labour Blush Has anyone else here successfully given birth after a tailbone injury?

Thanks Grin

I broke my coccyx after a fall down stairs. For months after you could hear it “clicking” when I walked. It was bloody agony.

I first gave birth about 3 years after I broke it - no problem with the tail bone whatsoever. No problems after my second birth either.

I broke my coccyx (tailbone!) drunk on my 16th birthday. I was whizzing round on one of those spinny computer chairs and landed on my arse on the metal axle bit. It hurt- I have the same problems as you (doesn’t hurt normally but aches if sat in the same position too long)

I have had two vaginal births- both fine! All through each pregnancy was fine- mentioned it to the midwife at booking in and that was the only time it ever features

fell off a horse as a teen and broke my tail.

no problems giving birth. well, no problem caused by the coccyx.

I broke my coccyx when I was a child, still hurts like hell when I sit on a hard chair but no problem at all with 3 vaginal births.

Thanks everyone! All very reassuring! I went on Google (I know, I know...) and some women were saying they were advised to have c-sections which seemed VERY extreme. Confused Glad to know none of you had any problems.

I fell over at 31 weeks, I threw my back to the wall to try and break my fall into more of a stumble and slid down the wall... my tail bone smashed against the skirting.

I actually ruptured my waters and gave birth 4 days later... she was back to back too.

I don't remember any pain from there during the birth or pushing. But to be honest I was a bit distracted.

Afterwards no pain from there. It was overridden by the 'hoof to the foof ' feeling around the front.

I think I'm saying that I think you'll be fine but in reality I know Jack shit.

I should add that I didn't actually break the bone but 'severely bruised' it.

I broke my tailbone about 8 years before giving birth. I told the midwife who wasn't bothered in the slightest. Gave birth with no issues with my tailbone.

I would mention it to your midwife as your break sounds worse than mine but sure it won't be a problem.
