I have packed two bags. One has my things for section/labour plus enough stuff to get us through afterwards if we stay 1-2 nights. In this bag I have 4 sleepsuits, 4 vests, 2 hats, 2 muslins, one blanket, 12 nappies. Plus my stuff. Then I have packed a second bag which will stay in the car and has more stuff for if we have to stay in another couple of nights, so another 10-15 nappies, 3 more baby outfits, more knickers etc for me.

I think it partly depends how far you live from the hospital - if things go ok for me then we will be at our local one which is only 10 mins drive so DH can easily come and get more stuff. But if things don't go smoothly then I will be sent to another hospital over an hour from home so I want to have enough stuff on standby to last me a few days.

Merrz · 03/12/2018 21:17

Boots have a good sale on Pampers nappies at the moment so I bought 2 packs of the 1st size. I think I'm going to pack 2 bags as well. One to get through labour and enough stuff for me to shower and get clean clothes on after and a 1st outfit for baby, then a 2nd bag with things to last a couple of days.

Merrz · 03/12/2018 21:25

What is everyone planning to wear to Labour in? I know I probably won't give a crap when the time comes but I was more thinking do i need something front opening for skin to skin after?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 03/12/2018 22:07

Merrz I have bought t-shirt dresses to wear as nightwear and then I can use one during labour.
It's these: www.boohoo.com/disney-mickey-distressed-tshirt-dress/DZZ06759.html

I've also bought some button down nightshirts, but they have long sleeves so I think they'll be too hot to wear during labour: www.tkmaxx.com/christmas/christmas-gifts/black-night-shirt/p/50117558

I really wanted a black short-sleeved t-shirt dress type of thing but with buttons in the front, but I haven't been able to find anything like that.

I frankly haven't got a clue Blush

RiskIt4Biscuit · 03/12/2018 22:29

SuperVeggie That's sounds like a good plan with two bags, and what you've packed seems quite sensible.

I've packed a toothbrush and deodorant for my DH into my wash bag for the hospital, and will probably remind him to put some clean clothes for him in there too - if we're stuck there for a while, he might appreciate being able to at least change his shirt.

I have a carry-on suitcase that I'll probably pack my stuff in, and then use the nappy bag for baby's things.
And then we've been advised to also have a snack bag (which I will enjoy planning and buying for).

Merrz Thanks for the heads up regarding Pampers on offer at Boots - I'm off to have a look and order some now.

ruthieruthuk · 03/12/2018 22:59

Hope everyone well.

I wonder who will be first to pop!

Due 2nd Jan so just under a month to go now n tbh I wouldn't be surprised at all if this baby comes before DDate as I feel ready to pop and these practice contractions seem to be getting stronger by the day!

After 4boys I'm finally having a girl, nervous!

Merrz · 04/12/2018 09:05

Those t-shirt dresses look like a good shout RiskIt4Biscuit think i'll order one.

Aww not long to go then ruthieruthuk how exciting having a little girl after 4 boys!

harrypotterfan1604 · 04/12/2018 09:43

I have bought two nighties from primark they are god awful but were £5 each so not at all expensive, they come to just past
My knees with my current bump and have 5 buttons to open up the neck so I thought they’d be ideal for skin to skin. I’ll never wear them again but for a fiver each it doesn’t matter.

I haven’t yet packed snacks but will be doing, I’m a very fussy eater though so doubt I’ll be able to pack very much that is easily eaten and not all carbs and sugar. Will throw some lucozade and bottled water in though for sure.

@ruthieruthuk how exciting a girl after all those boys 😍 I am due one month today....holy shit 😂

Tadda · 05/12/2018 03:07

(Was due 9th Jan- cSection now booked for 19th Dec, two weeks today Shock !)
As for bag I've been in hospital for past 3 weeks, so a revolver of 3 pyjama sets, two hoodies, slipper socks and vest tops - plus washbag! Baby bag currently getting packed at home to bring in next week ( DD1 only 14months so luckily still have everything including box of size 1 nappies, so just want to order a fresh new first set of clothes for dd2 to wear home and a new set of sleepsuits....plus a new 'first teddy' - and just as a pressie to me a new skip hop baby bag...)

Merrz · 05/12/2018 08:38

Oh god @Tadda that sounds a bit stressful. why have you been in hospital?

Tadda · 05/12/2018 15:14

@merrz Complete placenta previa - had two bleeds from 27 weeks but big abruption at 32 weeks where they thought they might have to deliver me- bleeding slowed thankfully but too risky to go home incase it happened again - they've been really good tho, had iron infusions to build up stores from bleeding, steroids for baby just incase, they cross match my blood every three days, ctg twice a day, growth scans....the works basically just try get us to 37 weeks....35 weeks today and baby now approx 6 1/2 lbs measuring and doing well! CSection a bit risky but been through a rough 'what will/could happen' and have pre Op appointment the day before, so roll on 19th!

le42 · 05/12/2018 15:42

I'm 33 weeks due 24th Jan... the last few days I keep getting a mild cramping (like period cramp) low down in my abdomen... could this be braxton hicks? It doesn't feel like "tightening."

I just called midwife team and they were pretty hopeless... said it's probably ligament - I have pretty severe pelvic girdle pain and it's a totally different sensation.

No other symptoms - I assume if something was wrong something else would happen. Baby's movement very active as always.

???

harrypotterfan1604 · 05/12/2018 16:59

Hi @le42, I’ve had Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now and they’ve felt more like tightening than period pains.
I’m almost 36 weeks baby’s head is now engaged and I have a period type pain had it two days now, midwife today said it could be positional so baby is causing the pain or could be the very very start of something.
Just keep an eye on it and ring triage if in doubt x

Merrz · 05/12/2018 18:15

Tadda what a worry for you. Sounds like you are being well looked after and in the right place though. Fingers crossed the next 2 week's go smoothly and pass quickly for you.

ruthieruthuk · 05/12/2018 18:45

@le42 how often are got getting the tightening? I often get pains but they aren't consistent, just in/off.. I'm 36wks n feel like I could have her any day tbh! 5th baby so Midwife said don't be surprised if she makes a early appearance!

@Tadda oh that must be scary but sounds like they are taking good care of you in the hospital, you must be climbing the walls being stuck there!

le42 · 05/12/2018 18:49

@ruthieruthuk it isn’t a tightening it’s more like a period cramp feeling... I get it every day for the past few days. Midwife at triage wasn’t helpful at all said it’s a bladder infection or ligaments... really doesn’t feel like either. I’m having a scan and appointment on Tuesday to see if my placenta has moved so I can flag it then.

It doesn’t seem to be getting worse, just the same.

@tadda sounds like you’ve had a right unlucky time of it! Hope you’re holding for up okay xxxxxx

cryptonaut · 05/12/2018 19:36

@le42 I've been getting the period type pain since baby moved to head-down position (probably about 31 weeks) and starting to snuggle into my pelvis. I was in MDAU the other day for a different issue, for this they put me on a monitor for the baby, it monitors 3 things, fetal heart rate, tightening/contractions, and movement. I was getting period type pain during the monitoring and it had no effect on the readings so I think it's just baby's head in the pelvis. It seems too low for ligament pain and they ruled out infections in me. Hope that helps x

pugmamma · 05/12/2018 19:40

Hi all!

So late to this thread but thought I'd say hi! I'm due 26th January, pregnancy so far going well apart from feeling a bit lonely this trimester. (tiny violins..)

I tend to absorb information better through books and reading so thought I would save my money when it came to paid classes but now I'm Having serious regrets over not joining NCT or other paid antenatal classes (I've been to a few one day workshops at the hospital but you don't get a chance to make friends properly)...

So wish I had a support group of fellow pregnant mamas, so this week I've found myself joining the Mumsnet app to feel better about things!

I'm going to stop being a lurker though and try to join the conversation! 😊

Hope everyone's doing well and loving all the tips on hospital bag packing.... so far I've decided disposable knickers are not for me 😂

le42 · 05/12/2018 19:40

Thanks @cryptonaut that’s reassuring! I would say I’m a bit worrier... I feel like if anything was amiss I would have other systems - he is such a big baby it’s probably just him moving down as you say!

Thanks everyone 😊

On another note... any nice nappy/baby bags you’ve spotted? Something neutral so my partner can carry too

cryptonaut · 05/12/2018 20:45

I got one of these from wish. It opens out to a changing mat/bed type thing too so thought it would be useful. I imagine it's not for everyone though as it is quite big

Merrz · 06/12/2018 10:00

Hi Pugmamma Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit lonely. This is a nice thread to ask anything or just have a chat about how you're feeling.
Have you been to any NHS antenatal classes?

cryptonaut that bag looks great, i'm going to have a look. How handy for when you're out and abput.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 06/12/2018 10:35

My nappy bag is a Longchamp travel bag: uk.longchamp.com/products/le-pliage/travel-bag/l1911089645

There is space for it in the basket in the pram, so I don't think we will carry it around a lot, but I think it's neutral enough for my DH to carry should he want or need to.

I thought it would be handy as it can be made larger with the zipper, it's quite light and I can use it for other things, like travelling, later on.

I'll be ordering a travel changing pad that can be folded so it will fit in the bag. I might also get some pouches so I can keep the bag fairly organised.

ruthieruthuk · 06/12/2018 20:17

Suspected a little I may be in early stages of labour this teatime/evening but seems to have settled for now after having a lay down on bed, was getting an aching sensation low down which was repeating every 10-15mins and peaking but seems bit better now.

I've never laboured at home before always been in the hospital and had my waters broken there, so it would be a new experience for me if i did, but things seem to have calmed down, I'm 36+1 so it she would be a little early but guess 5th baby it's possible..

Merrz · 06/12/2018 20:27

Omg ruthieruthuk our 1st possible labour on this thread Grin
Keep us posted!

pugmamma · 06/12/2018 22:21

@Merrz thank you 😊 yes I've been to a few of the free classes at the hospital which are good but you don't get the chance to meet friends as such! Yes I'm loving mumsnet at the moment it's google but for pregnancy!
