Had my 36 week scan and told baby's estimated weight was currently 5lb 15. Has anyone had similar and what I should expect rough birth weight to be?

With my youngest his estimated weight at 36 weeks was 5lbs7oz he was born at 38+3 at 6lbs3oz

I think as a "guide" babies are expected to put on half a pound a week - so at full term the estimation would be 7lbs15oz

(Mine we're putting about half a pound on every 2 weeks from growth scans)

I had a growth scan at 35+4 (now 36) and baby estimated at 5lb 9oz.

I had a growth scan at 30 weeks and baby was estimated at 4lbs. That’s in the whopping side of things apparently.

squirrelclub · 26/08/2018 19:01

My baby was estimated at around 6lbs at 35 weeks - arrived a little under 24 hours later, weighing 5lbs 13oz.

girlalmighty · 26/08/2018 19:08

Mine was touching 4lb on scam. Arrived next morning at 5lb 15. Scan was a load of bollocks to me.

Babdoc · 26/08/2018 19:15

In the old days we just relied on experienced obstetricians to predict the eventual birth weight. Mine was half an ounce out, (8 lbs 5 and 1/2 oz after a prediction of 8lbs 6oz) so I teased him for his “inaccuracy”!

BakedBeans47 · 26/08/2018 19:17

I had a scan at 37 weeks and they said he was 6lb 13 then and predicted a weight of 8 and a half pounds at 40 weeks

He was born at 39+3 weighing 7lb 7oz

BlueBug45 · 26/08/2018 19:22

After reading posts here about birth weights estimated from scans, I looked up some research articles and they stated they are on average 10-15% out.

twobambinos · 26/08/2018 19:23

Watching this too. Was told 4lbs at 31 weeks. And over 5lbs at 35. Everything I've seen seems to say that 5lbs is fairly average and I think they say average full term is 7.5/8

36 week scan - 5 11

Born at 39 + 3 - 6 13

lollilolli · 27/08/2018 08:51

6lbs 6oz at 36 weeks, born 7lbs 1oz at 39+2 so not accurate.

Current pregnancy baby was put at 6lbs 3oz at 36, 7lbs at 38. I'm 38+4 now and waiting on his arrival so will see how accurate it was this time!

Pepper123123 · 27/08/2018 09:52

On DC1 I was told she was around 6.5lb.
She was 5lb7oz born, so wasn't very accurate for me.

TheVanguardSix · 27/08/2018 09:54

Estimated weight at 38 weeks= 5lbs.
Birth weight (40 weeks)= 8 1/2 lbs.

LusaCole · 27/08/2018 09:55

My friend was told from the growth scan that she would be having a very big baby (over 11lb) so she opted for a C-section. The baby was only 9lb in the end.

TheVanguardSix · 27/08/2018 09:56

Babies put on about half a pound per week between weeks 36-40, by the way.

TheVanguardSix · 27/08/2018 09:57

only 9 pounds Grin

Holidayshopping · 27/08/2018 10:00

I know three people who the hospital booked in for planned early sections as the babies were measuring ‘massive’ on the scan (10/11 lb apparently). All were born weighing at much less than 8lb. It seemed a ridiculous drama!

BlueSky198080 · 27/08/2018 12:34

I was told I was having a large baby. Arrived at 37+3 weighing 6lbs 2. So if I’d gone to term he would have been 7-7 1/2 lbs, not huge at all!!!
