Hi all,

Any advice? I am currently on holiday in Cyprus and tonight have had brown spotting when I wipe on tissue.. I’m 10 weeks pregnant. Unsure what to do.. and am slightly worried... anyone else experienced this and it’s been fine..

It's very very common- especially in the early days. I had it with both my kids - the first at 7 weeks and the second at 17 weeks. Could be implantation bleeding and the important thing to remember is that it's brown so it's old blood and not from a bleed your having now. It's not anything you've done either so don't start thinking you've caused it by over exerting yourself. All you can do is wait and see and keep positive. Big hugs for you - I know the early weeks are stressful xxx

I had brown spotting around this point 1 I think between 10-12 weeks. I can't remember exactly what it was but something to do with a change around that time - maybe to do with the placenta taking over.

I rang my midwife at the time and she wasn't worried at all as long as it was brown blood and said it was very common. All was fine at the 12 week scan. Most likely it's absolutely fine but maybe try to get checked out if you get very painful cramps or red blood.

Have you recently had sex?I found it brought on the same for me in the first trimester but I'm now 20 weeks and all is fine. Try not to worry to much, it's old blood. I would seek medical advice if it turns bright red/you start getting bad pains. Although it does panic you, I'm sure all is fine Smile

I had brown/pink spotting at 8 weeks, booked a reassurance scan and everything was fine. As the pp said it can be very common in the first few weeks. Brown blood is your body getting rid of any old blood and mucus. Unless it gets worse and the blood turns red, or if you start getting severe cramps, I would try not to worry too much about it and enjoy your holiday (easier said than done, I know). X

I had brown spotting after wiping at 12, 15, 16 and 18 weeks (now 21 weeks and everything is going well). It's really unnerving but each time I went to get checked the doctors didn't seem worried and also said that brown is just old blood.

They do however check that the cervix is closed and the cervical thickness is over 30mm. Although it's very rare for that to be the cause, if they do find a problem then it can still be treated.

Thank you all so much for all your reassuring comments. The brown spotting fingers crossed seems to have stopped this morning. If it was you, would you assume everything is fine? I can’t help but worry I will go to 12 week scan in 2 weeks and them say something is wrong because of this. It seems very common but it is on my mind! Confused xx

I live near there and have had two babies in the local government hospital and the care is fantastic and doctors are English speaking.
You could call them if you wanted to.

There is also a good private clinic in Napa but I didn't use it. I did however have private scans at the Lito clinic in Paralimni. They have an excellent radiologist. That might put your mind
