Quick question: Stabbing pains in the bump at 31 weeks, normal?

It feels like he's wearing stilleto heels and he's digging them into me just on my right side.

It's happened before but I assumed it was a pulled muscle, this is the third time it's happened in as many weeks. It feels like really really bad trapped wind in one place, sortof right at the botom of my ribs on that side. Could it be that he's jamming his foot behind my ribs and pushing? would that account for the pains? They're really sharp.

No other symptoms, I feel fine otherwise, except for last night I had painful pressure all over the bump continuously for about an hour. Any ideas?

Hi Bananabump. I'm nearly the same number of weeks as you. I did get a very similar pain last night when out walking. My first thought was that it was a stretch mark emerging! Sort of sharp and sudden and on the right hand side. But then again, plenty of people have said that their babies can give v sharp kicks in the ribs.

Maybe give the midwife a call if they persist, just so she can reassure you?

Hi probably baby just making more room. Mine kicked right into my chest was very sore. Would monitor it and if you get any other symptoms/pains call the midwife.

I know this sounds odd but it'd help if I had a clue where my intestines were right now, like, are they behind the bump? above it? I can't tell what is a digestive complaint from what is a baby complaint iyswim.

I will monitor it and ask the midwives if it gets worse, I think he's doing something sadistic to my ribs, personally.

Thanks for the replies.

not sure but i think intestines are above and behind baby just now (i'm 33 weeks) trapped wind in intestines can be very sharp and stabbing pain sometimes, getting up and moving around usually helps i have had this a couple of times and it usually eases.

Stabbing pain under my right rib - I have been having this for around the last 6 weeks (now 41wks) on and off. It has actually become less painful, but to begin with would stop me in my tracks. MW said it was probably muscular stretching, but I don't know.

The area is now bruised I think, so not great when baby kicks, but my pg has to come to an end some time soon, so I think I've come to terms with it.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy - hope the pains let up xx

Thanks for your advice guys, it's appreciated. I think it may be something digestivey actually but it's enough to give you a bit of a scare when the pain is that sharp all of a sudden!

juicylucytoo- You're 41 weeks? Fingers crossed everything gets going for you very soon!
