Rib pain

I’m 22 weeks pregnant with my 4th and the last few days I’ve beeb getting a sharp pain on the left side of my ribs. Is this normal? I didn’t have it on my other 3 babies. It started after a 3 hour car journey and I wondered if it was due to sitting and everything feeling bunched up inside?
Has anyone else experienced this?

It might be from everything squashing up but think this could be a symptom for preeclampsia? Might be worth phoning midwives. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about Smile

I had rib pain at about 25 weeks when sitting in certain positions and it went after a day or so.

However it can also be a sign of pre eclampsia. Midwife actually told me that the other day. I would give your midwives a call. Better to do so today before the weekend. If you have to leave a message then make sure you do mention the rib pain and that pre eclampsia sprung to mind and you wanted to check. I have often found that Friday afternoon phone messages don't get returned until a Monday unless urgent.

@Armygirl where abouts is the pain located in your ribs? My midwife told me that it's only considered a sign if it's located under either of your breasts if that helps x

Thank you kate123cl it’s not quite as far up as under my boob. I’d say about 2 inches below. I’ve messaged my best friend who’s a midwife for advice as I didn’t bring my notes with me either. Silly me. I’m at a caravan in rural west wales. I’ve got no other pre eclampsia symptoms and feel well in myself so I’m hoping it’s not that but I’ll get advice and act on it. Thank you

@Armygirl No worriesSmile hope all is ok (sure it is) x

I don't think this is pre eclampsia.

I've had this same pain for several weeks (I'm 28 weeks now). The pain differs depending on what position I'm in etc. I've heard it could be something called Costochondritis. It's quite common in pregnancy. www.onhealth.com/content/1/chest_pain_costochondritis

Hey, where abouts are you in west wales? If you need an emergency midwife checkup then call your midwife and ask her if she can arrange for you to see a midwife in Haverfordwest (Withybush hospital) or give the midwife centre a call. I did this the other day and now have an appointment :)

Thank you Liz, I don’t have any other symptoms and feel well in myself so my gut instinct is that it’s not pre eclampsia.
Angharad, we’re near Cardigan. I thought the hospital at Carmarthen would be nearer but thank you I’ll see how far Withybush is 😊
