Hello lovelies

I am currently 21 weeks pregnant, everything was going well and then on Monday morning this week I had two big bowls of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. It was quite a large quantity. That evening I had a bad bout of diarrhoea, cursed my stupidity and hoped that would be the end of it.

However, it is now Friday and the diarrhoea has not stopped despite it being over four days since I even touched the stuff. It's usually once or twice a day.

I am just wondering whether it is possible that the cereal could have aggravated me in some way? What can I do to stop it? Has anyone experienced anything similar with having a reaction like this to eating a particular food? I feel so stupid and it's making me feel very uncomfortable

Thank you in advance

Your body is so much more sensitive during pregnancy and I often found that foods I usually loved would cause sickness or diarrhoea out of nowhere. At the most it has only lasted about 3 days with me.

I would suggest contacting your local midwives and asking their advice; they may want you to go get checked out just incase. Also if you have a fever, stomach pain, blood in your stool etc then that is classed as an emergency.

While it may have been a certain type of food that caused this, or it may have been a tummy-bug, it probably shouldn't be going on for so long, so I would recommend talking to a midwife. Best of luck x

Agree - call a midwife. And make sure you stay hydrated. Sorry - very basic advice. Just seems really unlikely that a couple of bowls of crunchy nut could cause this, so safe is prob best.

Thank you both. Appreciate the advice! I have been drinking lots of water. I just tried calling the midwife and left a message so hopefully they can get back to me before the bank holiday. In the meantime I think I will avoid cereal forever more! And milk perhaps.

I'd definitely be eyeing up the milk rather than the cereal, tbh - more likely to have gained a (temporary) sensitivity to that. Obviously go with the advice above and get yourself seen and hydrated. If you don't get a checkup over the long weekend ask a pharmacist whether you can have dioralyte or similar coping-with-diarrhea stuff while pregnant to keep your salts and sugars up. Hope you feel better soon!
