Cornish/West Devon mums and mums to be....Derriford or Treliske?

Hello ladies :)

Just looking for stories really! I had my booking in appointment yesterday...due to being in south east Cornwall I was given a choice of Derriford or Treliske. Without a beat of thought I chose Treliske...but am now reading horror stories!

To be fair...these stories were 5/6+ years ago, and are from the labour ward and not the new MLU which only opened last September. That's where I'm hoping to deliver...it just looks so beautiful and I love the idea of a water birth!

If anyone has experience of either unit (wards at derriford or Treliske, or the new birth centre) I'd love to hear them! It doesn't help that I have family members working as midwives at both units, so both are incredibly biased toward each other 😂

I’m south east Cornwall too. I know several mums locally who have had babies at Derriford in the last three years and have had positive experiences. I don’t know anyone who has given birth at Treliske I’m afraid. Probably due to distance. Derriford is 30 mins and Treliske 1 hr 20 mins.

I gave birth at Treliske a year ago and can't fault them. All the midwives were really lovely.

I stayed overnight as DS hadn't gone for a wee and I was struggling to breastfeed. They helped me with my latch all through the night and were really helpful.

I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

Thanks guys :) @OrangeSamphire the struggle I have is that I'm currently SE Cornwall but moving further down the coast in a few months! I'll be equidistant from both so am really bringing it down to whatever hospital/unit is best ☺️

@Meepmoop that's sounds fab! I take it that was labour ward then, and not the new unit? The stories were from the ward but I'm hoping it's turned around in the last couple years!

First baby...but I will be giving birth in Derriford. I have always had doubts about Derriford just in general so was sceptical...but they have been so amazing so far and I have had lots of scans and appointments....visits to triage etc

Yea it was in the labour ward the new unit wasn't open yet.

I think you'll find bad stories for most places. I was a bit sceptical of Treliske as I originally wanted to go Penrice but couldn't on the day but it was good and I'll plan to go Treliske for the next one
