Can anyone explain what my growth chart means?
I haven’t a clue!

I'm not 100 percent sure but I've had lots of growth scans this pregnancy.
Doesn't it mean baby is on the larger side? As it's not growing inbetween the lines?

peachesarenom · 22/08/2018 15:50

I think it means baby is very big as thr middle line is average and the top line is 90th centile so your cross is above that. Did they say anything about possible gestational diabetes or growth scans or any kind of follow up?

Looks like you're measuring 32 weeks at 30 weeks so 2 weeks ahead

I was 2 weeks behind and was sent for a growth scan (everything was fine) so they may send you too

I’ve just had one of these done - v annoying. I’m measuring bang on for the bump the old fashioned way, 28cm at 28 weeks but these apparently take into account your height, weight at booking and the weight of previous babies. I’d have thought being tall (and with a tall partner and tall family) and a previous big baby that this would mean my bump was small to normal for me. No, apparently because I’m tall the baby should have more space so the bump shouldn’t be as big, so like you baby plots off the top of the 90th %. So I’m being sent for a growth scan (must be within 2 weeks of the appointment I was measured at) if the baby measures over the 90th at the scan they will want to talk about early induction. I am not massively impressed to be honest!

It's a bit rubbish that your midwife didn't explain this to you! I take it this was a bump measurement done by your midwife?

It is showing that you have the average bump size of someone at 34 weeks gestation and you are 30 weeks. The same thing happened to me only I was 28 weeks and measured at at average 32 weeks. I was sent for growth scans and the long and short of it is, I'm having a big baby! 38 weeks on Friday and my baby's estimated weight today is 8.7 lbs already so should be over 9lbs when born. I see a consultant who just says yep your baby is gonna be big every time I see them!

Have you been offered any growth scans? I'd be surprised if you haven't, where I'm from if you have a raised BMI you get extra growth scans as they worry the baby will be small, I have a very similar BMI to you and my baby is gonna be massive! It's all a guessing game for them but can be scary for us mum's when we don't know what anything means!

It doesn't really mean anything as there is only one x on the chart , you need another reading.
Your midwife will send you for a GD test and possible growth scan if they are concerned
You're similar to me, but I'm not all that worried!

You are measuring large currently. If you read the guidelines on the bottom of the chart it says ‘a first measurement over the 95th centile is not an indication for a growth scan’ (or words to that effect). Usually it will even out over time. Given your raised BMI at booking, I would expect your early measurements to be a little on the higher side due to adipose tissue. Given that your previous child was on the second centile, you should (certainly in my trust anyway) be under a consultant led pathway with additional growth scans - I’m assuming this isn’t the case as usually the first would be at 28 weeks. Check with your midwife/consultant what their policy is.

I’ve got a growth scan in a couple weeks as I got high bmi. I’m was large before I fell pregnant, size 18-20 so could it be cos it’s also measuring my fat?
The midwife did say it may come lower in the lines after growth scan. My first baby was only 6.6lbs so I’d be surprised if this one was much bigger.

I’ve had two diabetes test, most
Recently a week ago and all is fine.

Thanks for explaining what it all meant. My mw is a bit crap at times.
