Foot Heel pain!

Hi

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I feel like I'm constantly suffering with something.

I've just got over a nasty bout of laryngitis and now my right heel has become very very painful. It's worse in the mornings and slowly eases throughout the day.

I've been taking paracetamol, but it's done very little and the pain in the morning is excruciating. I end up walking on my toes, just so I don't put weight on my heel. 😩

Anyone else suffered from this or has anyone got any miracle cures? Or do I need to go to the doctors?

See GP, but it sounds like Plantar Fasciitis, very painful I know I suffer with it a lot.

I am not medical trained, but what helps for me is rolling a tennis ball or cold can under my foot, the most important this is to wear supportive footwear the podiatrist said trainers are best and I also wear an insole inside to support the arch which had dropped, due to the PF.

It will take time to improve if it is PF, their are some exercises you can do if you google them that will help strengthen the PF and the Achilles’ tendon.

I hope you feel better soon OP.

Yes, it sounds like Plantar Faciitis. I've had this in both feet. My doctor said it was due to years of wearing, and driving in, high heels.

I had painkillers, special insoles in my shoes (flats or trainers), the exercises given to me by a Podiatrist. None worked for me, and I ended up having steroid injections, which were agony but then improved the condition greatly.

See your doctor.

Plantar Fasciitis, can happen more in pregnancy due to the relaxation of your ligaments. The best thing you can do is wear footwear with an arch support - FitFlops are the only shoes I can wear thanks to PF. Wearing flat shoes all the time is as bad for your feet as overdoing the heels!

The usual advice is to do exercises to loosen your Achilles but this may not apply in pregnancy as the problem in this case isn't necessarily tightness but looseness. Paracetamol won't help but anti-inflammatories can but ultimately these and the aforementioned hideouly painful steroid injections are only really masking the problem. Rest and the correct footwear are the only real solution. If you haven't had it before the chances are it will solve itself after pregnancy when your ligaments all tighten up again, and in the meantime you'll have to get some FitFlops and just do your best to manage your pain.

Go to Clarks and get yourself some shoes from the unstructured range. They’re the only shoes that helped me.

Also do the exercises pp have mentioned. Also stretch by standing on a step with the heel hanging off the edge and push down.

Good luck. It’s awful but exercises do help and it does ease up.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I live in converse, so I'll definitely get some more supportive shoes and I'll go and see my doctor this week.

I hope it doesn't last for the entire pregnancy. 🙏🏼

Just an update: Doctor said I have got plantar fasciitis, but they can't prescribe me anything.

Thankfully my uncle has some things that may help as he has suffered from it in the past! So at least I don't have to go out and buy loads of stuff!

Thanks again for your help!

🤞🏼🤞🏼
