Hi , just had the doctors ring me after my blood test today and apparently my hb and platelets are low , does anyone know what this could indicate?

Also they want me to repeat the blood test in 2 weeks time but haven't given me any prescription/advised on what it means in the mean time, any clue why this is ?

Thanks! Smile

Your total blood volume increases which can dilute the amount of platelets you have. Iron deficiency is common in pregnancy too. Nothing to worry about x

Great ,thank you! May just go and get some iron tablets then ! X

If your haemoglobin is too low they should give you a prescription for iron tablets - you don't have to go and buy your own.

Just be aware in pregnancy haemoglobin levels are lower than normal due your increased blood volume.

@emelsie I was told I had low platelets after they did my first blood test at my booking appointment, they repeated my bloods at my next appointment and when they got my results, contacted me to tell me to get some iron tablets for anemia, but didn't mention my platelet score. I asked a consultant to check my results when I had a hospital, and she said that my last bloods were fine, but my first results were worryingly low, under 100. the consultant said it could of been the fact that my cells bunched up and collected or something?

try not to worry OP, it could just be that they have collected and they have a bit of an iffy result, hope your next set come back fine FlowersSmile

I had this with my last pregnancy. I got blood tests every fortnight but nothing was done, no tablets etc. They just kept an eye on them. I was never given a reason either, had a couple of blood tests after the birth to check they were back up and that was it.

Try not to worry I’m sure everythings ok.
