Anyone been on Clexane throughout pregnancy?

I do not have any blood clotting disorders but am on clexane this pregnancy as a precautionary measure because my placenta clotted quite badly with dc1 and affected growth.

If you've been on Clexane, when did you stop taking it? I've been on it since 7 weeks and my consultant basically wants me to stay on it until the day before my elective c-section which I'm not too happy about...

Has anyone been told anything by their haemotologist about long term effects of clexane? Mine said that each pregnancy I'm on heparin, I will lose 2-3 years of calcium supplies which can't be replaced. Thus making me more prone to osteoporosis later on. I kinda got the vibe that he was advising me not to get pg again though he certainly didn't say that. Anyone know anything?

Camerashy, that's the reason I was given for not being allowed to stay on it any longer than a few weeks after giving birth - there's definitely meant to be a link to osteoporosis. I'm not sure if they've done studies on women 30 or 40 years after being on heparin though - it would be interesting to see the outcome...

About the osteoporosis thing. Yes, this is a recognised side effect according to my consultant.

Was about to make an appointment with him to grovel to be allowed a second pregnancy on Clexane (his bedside manner isn't the best!)

Unfortunatly, had another DVT last week though So it's Warfarin for the rest of my life apparently.

The nurses said that there's no reason why I can't have another, but can't conceive on Warfarin. And that going onto Clexane instead puts you under pressure to conceive!!

Katsma- that's a tricky one. At the end of the day, a dr can't stop you getting pg again. I'm wondering if you have the same haematologist as me- I don't like his bedside manner much! Good luck with your decision. I don't know how I feel about future pg's- I think I would be very happy to stick with 2 children but would be nice if the clexane thing wasn't a factor in that decision.

I was on clexane for my last pregnancy due to the fact that the pregnancy before, my dd had IUGR and the placenta wasn't working properly along with the fact I had 3 m/c and after found out I had a hughes syndrome so that's the reason I was put on clexane, I took it right through pregnancy and 6 weeks after delivery, I was induced on the monday and told to take my last injection sun night, this is mainly in case you have/need an epidural/c/s, and 12 hours is enough time for it to come out of your system. As Gumbo says if it's an emergency and you have had the injection you won't be able to have an epidural and may have a c/s under a general.

Hi i'm expecting my 4th i'm 20wks i have been on clexane before in my last pregnancy near the end for suspected dvt i was only on it for 10 days only and had no problems. This time i'm early being put on it because it has been confirmed i have a clot in my left calf so i've been put on 80mg twice a day but havent been told when i can come off it. I have to inject it in my tummy which doesnt hurt during adminstering but after. I know how you ladies feel your not alone. I'm worried it will effect my labour plans of waterbirth
