30 week growth scan - what to expect?

I’ve had a google on this and all I seem to be able to find it people discussing results from this scan, not actually what I can expect when going to the hospital tomorrow!

I know I’m meant to get scanned and then see a consultant afterwards but if anybody could give me an inkling of what actually happens I would be grateful

The sonographer scans you and while scanning you should tell you whether measurements are OK.

If you don't want to know the sex of your baby then state this as soon as you get into the room. The sonographer will then use any sex to refer to the baby.

Once the scan is done and written up, you will then see your consultant.

The scan appointments take less time the bigger the baby gets if you have a wiggler as they have less room to move in.

Thank you, so much more helpful than anything I’ve been able to find online!

I already know the sex but might ask the sonographer to double check just to make sure Blush not that it makes any difference but if I get the sex confirmed again maybe I’ll be more decisive on names (think I’m annoying my DH by not being decisive just in case!)

Thank you so much once again!

It’s just a standard ultrasound, similar to your 20 week scan but less in depth. They will take measurements of all the important bits like femur, head, abdomen and check blood flow/amniotic fluid/position of the baby. They’ll also estimate the weight. I had 2 growth scans in the third trimester and I think they took about 15 minutes each plus I got given some photos of the baby which was nice.

Good question OP, I have scans at 24w and 28w to check spine and growth so was wondering the same thing!

It’s like any other scan really. They will scan you, tell you how it is going as they are doing it and type up a report afterwards. With the consultant you will discuss the findings. I had one on Friday. They also tell you the position of your baby and estimated weight.

Measurements and checking baby bits like heart, bladder etc. Maybe checking the blood flow and amniotic fluid too. Then the consultant will check results. Depends what you are having the scan for I guess.. for me, just growth scans so quick in and out if baby's measurements are fine.
