Mirena coil & pregnancy symptoms = confusion

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar to me.

I've currently had the mirena coil for 2 years with regular periods no other issues but this last 3/4 weeks somethings changed I'm feeling blotted, nausea, headaches, smell of cooking makes me feel sick, wanting to eat loads of sugary stuff, sore back and cramps in lower tummy and feeling more tired and falling a sleep real early. I've got 2 kids ages 10 and 6 so I can remember some of these symptoms in my early stage pregnancys but I dunno if I'm over thinking things as I've just looked at my period calander & didn't kno I was late but this should have been my last day of my period so currently 6 days late. I haven't been working that much just my normal 30hrs a week so I'm not over working my self and I've been off for 2 days an all I want to do is sleep and eat sweaty treats.

I would like to know your experience on the mirena coil have any of you fell pregnant on it before or just had pregnancy like symptoms I've read so many different things around this subject. I dunno if I'm just over thinking it or what I'm actually scared to go down test to see what it says.

Any info would be appreciated
Thanks
Jackie

Take a test. I'm on the mirena coil and have been since May and had to take a test this week. I honestly thought I was pregnant as the symptoms were so strong and familiar from my first pregnancy. Thankfully it was negative, a friend of mine has experienced the same recently and also not pregnant.

I have had similar with pills in the past where I've been ok on them for a couple of years and all of a sudden they just no longer suit me.

On the other side though I have also seen a few posts where people have them and do still fall pregnant. Sorry, not much help!

Hi thanks for your reply. This is my second mirena coil I had one in for just over 3 years but it had to get replaced after smear results and treatment & never had any issues with it until 4/5weeks. I can't feel my strings either although it's common for mine to roll up..

i had a lady that commented on a other post on diff site her friend was going insane cause she was convinced she was pregnant but tests and blood tests weren't showing any positive results they eventually gave her a scan and she was nearly 5months pregnant. This last 24hs I've been driving my self nuts reading up everything about mirena and pregnancy/ phantom pregnancys I'm actually thinking about going to get it out once I find out if I am or not will get a test tommorow x

I'm probably going to get mine removed too, the nurse assured me that I'd get none of the symptoms you would get with the pill because it only releases the hormone into your uterus, but I'm definitely not getting what she promised. Hope you get the result that you want x

Hi!
I actually did fall pregnant with my mirena coil two years ago. Like you, I still had a regular monthly bleed and noticed I was a bit overdue for one. I took a test to rule it out, but ended up ruling it in.

Falling pregnant on the coil can lead to eptopic pregnancy so I went straight to my drs who sent me straight to the epu at the hospital. They scanned me but couldn't find the pregnancy, I was only about 4 weeks so not unusual to not see anything and s blood test confirmed I was pregnant.

They advised that the coil be removed- in doing so could cause me to miscarry but leaving it in could also cause a later term miscarriage so seemed like the best option.
Three days later I started to bleed and miscarried.

They do believe that my coil was not in the correct position which is how it allowed me to fall pregnant.

I think it's wise to do a test, see your doctor and go from there.. best of luck xx

I've done 2 tests one came back negative took another this morning as I'm not 8 days late & it's very unusual came back positive. I've contacted the docs but no appointments left & I explained my situation so I'm now waiting on a call back. I've tried to feel around for the threads ect but having no luck so I dunno what's happened to the coil or if my threads have just rolled up. X

When was the last time you checked your threads?

Jackiea2 · 21/08/2018 14:46

Tbh It's been a while I had a smear in April she did mention she seen them then. My partner usually feels them during sex but after talking to him about this he's realised he's not felt them in a while either. I've been referred to go for a scan to check where coil is cause nurse couldnt see anything today & to go for bloods tomorrow morning to check hormoan levels. X
