Our first baby - little miracle as I was going for IVF but hadn’t started it yet.
Had a scan at 8weeks then the usual 12 week one and combined blood test. Everything looked good on the scan last week, no ‘markers’ or anything unusual. Then the midwife called me on weds inviting us in to discuss the blood results. It didn’t occur to me to even think about the blood test results at all as I figured with my age it wouldn’t be a factor. (I am 30). The Down’s test came back okay at 1/6000 but the Edwards and Patau’s has come back as 1/78. I am going to be too far ahead to do the CVS screen so I would have to wait until 15 weeks for the amnio which is not next week but the week after (feels like forever!).
We also discovered the NIPT test and have decided to do that privately which the results come back in 3-5 days. I have calmed down quite a bit after the news but I have also realised that I am not feeling the same connection with the baby now and I imagine this is incase we have to make an awful decision. My partner is great but he is a very typical man and just says ‘let’s wait until we get the Nipt results’.
Has anyone had any experiences with anything mentioned above?
Thanks

Not quite the same but i have had 4 scary pregnancies.

First mmc. Second everything looked great then we got a huge shock at the 20 week scan. Third everything looked great then a follow up scan to get the nt measurment at 14wks showed hb had stopped and baby had triploidy. A little similar to edwards and pataus which i think are incompatible with life.

This current pregnancy i had screening and they couldnt give me a risk for downs as my hcg was too high so it has been a worry.

I habe kept myself sane thinkimg things like even if it is a 1:2 risk you could still be the 2. A 1:78 risk isnt horrendous. Ypu could be anyone of the 77 out of that stat.

I realise its very stressful waiting for the results however you have done exactly what i would have goinf for the nipt which is none invasive and will more than likely give you a much lower risk.

Fwiw my third pregnancy, the triploidy one,was after my second pregnancy, my son, being stillborn. When i found out the pregnancy ended because there was something seriously wrong with the baby which meant it would have died regardless i was just glad it had happened at 14wks rather than later on and found it much easier to come to terms with.

I honestly think though that the nipt will produce a much lower risk and its nothing to worry about too much at the moment. I just wanted to cover all aspects with the history i have. Will keep everything crossed for you.

Wow thank it for that message. You are right about the way of thinking, I have tried to think like that and the odds could be lower and still fine. Difficult as I never thought I would get pregnant never mind carry for this long to be then told it 'could' have something I had never heard of! I am usually a person that has their glass half full but all I could honk if was ' I knew it was too good to be true'. I am one of those ppl who have REALLY bad luck, so much that my parter and I always laugh about it and the 'odds' of something happening because I am always that '1'. It just not funny anymore Hmm

You don't have bad luck!! You got pregnant naturally while preparing to go through ivf!! That sounds like anything but bad luck to me!

I didn't have the blood tests. I didn't want the worry and thought no matter what I wanted my little baby. But at my 20 week scan they couldn't see all chambers of the heart. I had to go for extra scans with a specialist. I had an awful wait over the weekend and I was worrying and crying all weekend. Turned out everything was fine! I now have a healthy 3 month old sleeping on my lap.

Try not to worry, it's a 1/78 chance. Still a very small chance. Keep yourself busy, read magazine, eat cake, go for a walk some where nice. Sending hugs ThanksThanksThanks
