So confused. Don't even know how to explain this to the midwife!

Today I found out I am pregnant. Really happy but oh so confused. I suffer chronic pain and because of that my love life has to suffer. For the past month there has been 0 action I've been in so much pain yet pregnancy test today say a massive positive. Last month i was 2 days late tested (several times!) and came back negative. Had a normal period. How on earth am I pregnant lol. How do i explain this to the midwife!?? I've donates blood had two lots of blood tests been in my hot tub at 40oc. Slightly worried now!

Sounds like you are about 8 weeks or so perhaps and got pregnant last month instead it was probably just a delay getting a positive pregnancy test ask to be referred to EPU for dating scan .

Midwife is meant to be calling Monday. Just nervous as obviously as all other tests came back negative didn't expect this! Will asking to be referred do anything or is it likely they Will just say to hold out and wait! Last pregnancy I had emergency Dr and hospital shouting at each other that I was and was not pregnant (I had copper coil in and hospital swore blind it was impossible!) Don't hold much hope r.e. scans etc ☹

They'll ask for your last monthly period, just say you aren't sure due to irregular cycles but the last time you had sex was X date, so you have to be at least y + 2 weeks pregnant (y= number of weeks since last had sex). They'll likely send you for an early test.

Oh god I'm useless with dates always have been! I always say I'll note things down like period start dates etc and something goes wrong or I forget! Guess I'll just have to see what midwife says Monday! 🙈 online says I could be anything from 5-9weeks so that's a fairly big gap! Especially as dating scan is 12 weeks. It's all sort of happened so fast! Still in shock and don't believe it! keep expecting my period to come as very other time I've done a test they've been negative and period started next day. These tests went positive instantly like quickest I've ever seen! Someone told me to do a digital clear blue to find out how far I am? Xxx

I did clear blue after about 7 other tests as I was in (good) shock ! It came back 2-3 weeks but when I worked it out I was more like 5/6 so they are good for some ppl but not exactly for everyone! No harm in trying eh x

The Clearblue are confusing because they say how pregnant you actually are based on conception, but your due date (before dating scan) is based on your last period, which is usually about 2 weeks before that.

Add to that the fact that it’s possible to ovulate early or late, and it can vary quite a lot!

Again, try not to worry as your dating scan will clear things up. If it’s too early, they’ll just send you for another one.

Congratulations! I'd definitely ask if you can go for a scan as you're likely to be further along that you think, also, not wishing to concern you, but it's probably good to rule out other things that may be giving you HCG positive tests without pregnancy - highly unlikely but worth a discussion with doctor / midwife

Ok think I will skip the clear blue! As for other things to cause a false positive I have looked into this and I can honestly say I had my smear only a couple of weeks ago and that was clear and don't take any medicine to cause false results. Also I took two different brands of test as when i saw the line appear at the top of the test to say it was positive I thought I'd done something wrong or the test was broken or upside down lol. I'm certainly going to ask about a scan as think it would help me stop stressing too. Super excited! Butboh so nervous as I'm always in a lot of pain from my lower back all down to my feet so this pregnancy will be hard. Pain only developed halfway through my last pregnancy and been fighting 4 years to find out what it is. On the final road for a diagnosis of fibromyalgia :( but having a teeny tiny bean is well worth the pain! Xxx
