Hello :)

Just wondering what milk people packed for hospital? What is best? And whether to take powdered or ready made?

Thank you! Xx

Its best taking ready made as there's (usually) nowhere sterilise and make bottles fresh. I used cow & gate for DS

Sandstormbrewing · 17/08/2018 20:45

There's nowhere to sterilise bottles so you'll need to take the pre-sterilised ready to drink ones.

Aptamil do ready made from birth milks (we will use these next time as our hospital doesn't supply milk anymore.)

Sophwalms · 17/08/2018 20:53

Asda sell sma ready made from birth bottles in a 6 pack for £7! I've got them already and I'm due in 8 weeks xx

GreenMeerkat · 17/08/2018 20:53

My hospital says to only take the starter packs with the small ready made bottles and sterilised teats

I have a question I hope no one minds me asking, I plan to breastfeed but if it doesn't go to plan will the hospital have milk available for the baby? Or is it worth me taking some with me just in case?

laylasmummy1 · 17/08/2018 21:18

I've not heard this before... when i last had a baby (6years ago) it was provided but we didn't use it. even though I want to bf if there's an issue would I need my own formula?? thank you x x

WooYa · 17/08/2018 21:20

Some hospitals do have a stash of formula for just in case. I heard a midwife tell a girl on my ward that they have some but her DP would have to go and buy some more if baby didn't latch on.

Tiredmum100 · 17/08/2018 21:23

Can you check with your hospital as to what they provide? My trust provided a breast pump, cold water steriliser and pre made milk. This was 6 + years ago. I'd take the pre made starter packs to save all the faffing!

beccii161016 · 17/08/2018 21:36

The hospital usually have a supply as many breastfed babies can need what they call a "top up" feed. Call and check with the hospital to be sure though :)

Smurf123 · 17/08/2018 21:49

My hospital provided it.. They even asked which brand I wanted them to give ds..
He was taken straight to nicu after birth though and he was initially tube fed so don't know if this made a difference..

BlueBug45 · 17/08/2018 22:01

My hospital states clearly on their website you need to bring your own ready mixed formula. They do provide single use sterilised bottles and teats.

I'm also aware that if you have a baby in nicu you are treated differently for a good reason.
