Hi

I am 16 weeks and 17 weeks on Monday. I am seeing a friend on Sunday and there daughter has a sickness bug. Not sure if it’s best for me to not go? I’m worried about catching it as I know we are more vulnerable when pregnant. I’ve heard it won’t harm the baby but if I get severely dehydrated etc then it could be fatal.

Do you think it’s okay to go? Or best not to? I really don’t know :(

I wouldn't go pregnant or not. Stomach bugs are nasty and very contagious. I'm sure your friend would understand!

No way on earth would I. She'll understand.

I'd call tomorrow and see how her little girl is feeling then make a decision. It could be a 24 hour thing and she is fine or it could be worse and she won't want to go out/have visitors.

I wouldn't be avoiding her due to the pregnancy and worrying about the baby as much as I would be avoiding her due to not wanting to get sick. Pregnant or not if you can avoid getting sick that's the best outcome.

I'd rearrange the meet up. Even though I'm not pregnant. These bugs are best isolated as much as possible so they don't get passed around.

If my DD had the bug I'd be rearranging the day with you for that very reason.

Maybe by letting you know about the bug they are inviting you to cancel?

I wouldn't. For a start there are very few types of medication you can take when you're pregnant which I found out when I came down with a heavy cold and was off work instead of dosing myself up with Sudafed as I normally do. So being ill is shit and to be avoided at all costs!

SoyDora · 17/08/2018 10:37

I’m surprised she wants to keep the date anyway, when my DC are ill I wouldn’t dream of inflicting it on anyone else.
I wouldn’t voluntarily visit someone with a stomach bug pregnant or not, not if it’s just a social call that can be rearranged. Why bother?

I wouldn't. I caught a vomiting bug around 16 weeks and it was awful.

Was still bf dd1 who was 20 months old. DH working away from home.

So worried about dd1 catching it. And about dehydration. Never felt so sorry for myself before.

Don't risk bringing it into your house.

I honestly wouldn't I caught a stomach bug at 28 weeks pregnant the stomach cramps was like contractions. My baby was distressed as I couldn't keep anything down and was either kicking so much or not kicking at all plus it lasted for around 72 hours. It's honestly not worth it

I wouldn’t risk it. Never had one when pregnant but had one when DC3 was about a month old and was breastfeeding. I had her latched on while I was lent over a sick bowl at one stage Grin. Just horrible... no one wants a sickness bug at any time, not in the least when you’re pregnant.
