20 week scan tomorrow.....suddenly a bag of nerves

I’m quite sure I’m just being silly! But I have my 20w scan tomorrow and suddenly I’m a huge bag of nerves.
Up to now I haven’t felt any movements no flutters at all (first baby and I’m fairly overweight so don’t know if that makes a difference) and I’m just panicking a bit now.
I was fine up until today.
I’ve convinced myself there’s something wrong.
Just looking for a little reassurance that’s all. When did others feel first baby move ?

I'm only 13 weeks but had exactly the same feeling before my 12 week. I think we just have anxiety now for the next 18 + years 🙈

Harrypotterfan1604 · 16/08/2018 17:04

I don’t recall being so worried for the 12 week scan maybe because I hadn’t really come to terms with being pregnant then I was still in shock. Since my last scan I’ve become quite excited so I think that’s made the anxiety worse

You'll be fine. I can remember going for a scan at 20wks with Dd2. I had only found out the day before that I was pregnant I went to the doctors with a suspected kidney infection 😂😂. DH and I were in total shock.
Think I was about 22wks with Dd1 before I felt baby move.

Hi! My anxiety ramped up every time I had an antenatal appointment coming up too, I think it's quite normal! I am also overweight but had felt some movement by 20 weeks. It's completely normal not to though, I think it mainly depends on where your placenta is though. Also, you might not have recognised it as movement - early on it's very similar to gas in your bowels and I didn't feel it every day for quite some time.

peaches1991 · 16/08/2018 17:13

Mine is tomorrow too! And I haven't felt anything either. Just think about how exciting it is to see your baby again Smile are you going to find out what you're having?

Harrypotterfan1604 · 16/08/2018 17:13

Thanks ladies , it is nice to see that others have similar anxieties and that I’m not completely mad 😂

@peaches1991 no I don’t think we will be finding out. I am excited to see baby again but the fear is taking over right now.
Are you finding out? Have you felt any sort of movement yet? Xx

I was very anxious too before my 20 week scan and in tears the night before. Its my first baby and I didn't feel her move till about 22 weeks. I found out at the 20 week scan that I have an anterior placenta which is why. Because of no movements, no bump and my early pregnancy symptoms had worn off I was convinced something was wrong. But everything was fine and it was a beautiful experience xx

peaches1991 · 16/08/2018 17:33

@Harrypotterfan1604 yes we're going to find out, I'm too impatient to wait! I haven't felt any movements either but feel Iike I have much more of a bump now than I did a few weeks ago so that's put my mind at rest.

Baby160P · 16/08/2018 18:17

I don't know if you feel the same too but once people all know it's pressure that you want to make sure not just for you but all of the family that everything is ok xx

Firsttimemum1829 · 16/08/2018 18:20

Wow, I was just coming on to say the exact same thing. I am 20 weeks today, but scan is next week. I am also overweight and it’s my first baby. We have also got to have an extra heart scan. I am just really worrying something will be wrong, but I didn’t have a great experience at my 12 week scan so think that’s why. Good luck and make sure you let us know how it goes xx

Harrypotterfan1604 · 16/08/2018 19:33

@Baby160P yes your right lots of pressure despite it being out of my hands.

@Firsttimemum1829 it’s so hard just the unknown. I’m sorry you had a bad experience at first scan :( keeping fingers crossed for you x

👶🏻❤️

peaches1991 · 17/08/2018 20:49

Congrats @Harrypotterfan1604! Ours was fine too, although baby wouldn't play ball so the sonographer made me stand up and jump up and down!

Harrypotterfan1604 · 17/08/2018 21:21

@peaches1991 yay! Congratulations. Are you sharing with us the sex are keeping it to yourselves :)

@Harrypotterfan1604 it's a girl! I was convinced it was a boy, and so was everyone else apart from my DH.

jennac · 18/08/2018 09:11

@Harrypotterfan1604 @peaches1991 congrats both!! So pleased that your scans went well, what an amazing relief and you can now get properly excited!!

I have mine on Monday so I'm in the same boat as you both a few days ago. Absolutely bricking it for some reason...lay in bed all night worried that they're going to pick up on something. Haven't felt anything yet either and nearly 21 weeks and last appointment where they checked baby was over 9 weeks ago so I feel like anything could have happened! I just want Monday to be here!! 🤞

Harrypotterfan1604 · 18/08/2018 09:25

@jennac i feel for you! Monday will soon be here. It’s such a strange feeling going all that time without anyone checking baby I can’t understand it. I think until movements start the worry will always be there because we are completely oblivious as to what’s happening inside us. I’ve decided I felt so worried because all my life I’ve only had me to worry about but now I have something which is relying on me to keep it alive and that’s oretty scary.
I’m sure everything will be fine for you on Monday. Please do Update us. Are you finding out the sex?

Yeh that makes absolute sense @Harrypotterfan1604 - the responsibility is massive! When you had your scan did it become clear quite early on that everything was fine? I can't bear this honestly! Nah, not finding out the gender...all I care about is it being healthy, I honestly can't even think about anything further!

Harrypotterfan1604 · 18/08/2018 09:42

The sonogrpaher was really lovely. She had a quick look herself and then spun round the screen and said here have a look there’s the heartbeat. She then explained that she was going to start at baby’s head and work her way down the body checking everything over and she would show me as soon as she could. So she checked the head then showed me, then the chambers of the heart and explained that to me and literally showed me every single step. I appreciate not all will do that but she was so calming right from the start.
For me all I needed to see what that heartbeat and I felt fine xx

jennac · 18/08/2018 09:52

Aw @Harrypotterfan1604 she sounds amazing and like she really did everything spot on how you'd want to make you feel at ease! I really hope mine has a quick look first and then kinda says whether there's a heartbeat etc so I can relax a little. Thank you so much for your explanation. I really hope you're enjoying your pregnancy knowing that everything is going wonderfully 😀

Baby160P · 18/08/2018 10:49

That's what I loves about the scan seeing the sections on the brain and everything it's just mad!

I got my blood results back It's we have 1:10000 chance of downs/edwards/pataus
