Hi all. Apologies if this has already been asked and discussed but I couldn't find a thread on it.
So baby is due early January and I'm a little baffled as to how I should be dressing a newborn during the winter months and into spring- it also doesn't help that different shops/websites call items of clothing different names...romper suits, sleep suits, baby grows etc etc! Please help me as I'm currently compiling a list of things to start buying. Thanks!

I'm no expert as I'm due with my first early Jan as well, but i've been told that you dress them in the same amount of layers as you have on then add 1, so if you would have on a jumper and coat, they have a vest, sleepsuit, and snowsuit (I think!). Bare in mind you can't put them in a car seat when wearing something thick like a snow suit.

Depends where they are. If they're in a house kept warn with central heating they won't need much. If they're going out in cold weather they will need more.

I would buy vests and sleepsuits for the first few months, and blankets. You'll need layers you can easily remove when you are indoors with the heating on. If you are planning on taking baby out in the pram then a pramsuit or jacket too. Remember not to use puffy/bulky pramsuits or coats in the car as it means they might not be restrained in the carseat properly and also you have the heating on anyway so a blanket over the top is fine! Don't buy hundreds of bits in newborn sizes either as they grow out of them so fast!

My DS was born in january. In the house (assuming you have reasonable central heating) he wore a vest and a sleepsuit (babygro). When we went out in the pram I added a cardigan, hat and as many blankets as needed. In the car just add blanket over normal indoor clothes. We used a sling a lot, just wore indoor clothes plus hat and some little soft booties. Babies can overheat very quickly and will become drowsy. If they are cold they’ll let you know!
